Unlike the true deserts of Northern Africa, the Kalahari has adequate rainfall to sustain vegetation growth and a thriving ecosystem of plants and animals that have adapted and thrive in this area. The area is good in the dry season but best in the wet season between late December and May. Particularly good for game in the wet season when large herds of plains game concentrate in the reserve, following these herds are large numbers of resident and migratory predators.
Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild dog and Hyaena all occur in good numbers while a number of smaller and interesting predators are commonly seen like the Honey badger, Meerkat, the Bat-eared and Cape fox species. The area is scenic in its own way with blankets of flowers covering the dunes in the wet season.
