Overland Tour Description |
A safari of sunsets, faraway horizons, solitude and silence. We created this tour because we love it. From the experiences that we go through, we find that we are still overwhelmed by the places we visit, the people we meet and the animals we find.
Every safari we do has different highlights, and every highlight is never forgotten. We hope that those of you, who share with us these experiences, will feel the same way and do as we have done, fall in love with the memories of Africa.

Overland Tour Itinerary: |
| Day 1 |
We meet at The Outback Africa Safari Lodge in Cape Town and depart for a day of exploration.
We start our safari adventure with a hiking venture up Table Mountain ; thereafter we visit Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope and the Simon's Town Penguin Colony. We end the day with a welcoming Braai and safari briefing by the Management of Outback Africa Safaris at their Outback Africa Safari Lodge. |
| Day 2 |
After breakfast we depart on our safari. Travel into the true remote wilderness area of the Western Cape . We camp tonight in the Cedarberg Mountains . The afternoon is spent on a short walk to a waterfall, or a swim in one of the many rock pools or rivers. |
| Day 3 |
Head northwards for the Namibian Border, and make for our campsite on the banks of the Orange River . But first we stop to stock up on local provisions in the last major town for days to come. After setting up camp we cool off in the river.
The rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure chasing Springboks around the bar. |
| Day 4 |
Today, we spend the morning on the river. We spend a lazy period canoeing down the largest river in South Africa, the Orange River. Relax and experience the stark beauty of this ribbon of water and vegetation cutting a path towards the Atlantic Ocean. After lunch, we break camp and head out towards the second largest canyon in the world. The Fish River Canyon.
Sunset is spent enjoying the red sky and listening to the silence. |
| Day 5 |
Lüderitz and the cold Atlantic Ocean . En route as we cross the Namib sand mass, to explore the dramatic area and admire the German architecture of the historic old town.
Late afternoon visit to the diamond-mining Ghost Town of Kolmanskop, to do a guided tour.
Thereafter it's back across the desert, hoping to observe the unique desert horses endemic to this area at sunset. Camp at an oasis in this harsh desert tonight. ROUTE AND WEATHER PERMITING |
| Day 6 |
An interesting drive finds our group in the desert. Sesriem and Sossousvlei.
After lunch and siesta, we will explore the Sesriem Canyon and the highest dunes in the world:
The dunes of Sossousvlei. Those who want will have the opportunity to climb one of these ever-changing Namib summits. It is an experience never to be forgotten as we enter a different world, the world of the sands of time. Sunset is spent chasing black shadows across red dunes, whilst sipping a cold chardonnay. |
| Day 7 |
Sunrise is greeted and, after breakfast, head out towards the cold Atlantic Ocean once more. En route we cross the Kuiseb Canyon and the Namib-Naukluft Park. This area has unique photographic opportunities. Transverse the Namib sand once more and make for the holiday Mecca of Swakopmund. Accommodation is in bungalows or hotels, allowing us to rid ourselves of the Namib sand and be civilized for a couple of days. |
| Day 8 |
Swakopmund has a huge variety of shops, museums, beaches and restaurants. Optional excursions are, for example, a Flight over the Dunes that we climbed at Sossousvlei.
Or chill out at a local sidewalk coffee shop. |
| Day 9 |
First we visit to the Seal Colony of Cape Cross on the Skeleton Coast.
After our Seal excursion we head for the Spitzkoppe. We spend the late afternoon exploring many hidden crevasses and caves in search of evidence of San occupation in earlier times. Sunset is spent high up on a rock ledge fascinated by the ever-changing rainbow of colour - red, burnt amber, yellow and orange: the Sunset of Spitzkoppe. A silent destination. |
| Day 10 |
Damaraland & Desert Elephants. Today we venture into the true wilderness, searching for the endemic Elephants and the San etchings of Twyfelfontein. We are exposed to true African conditions today. Camp in an ethnical campsite and enjoy the cultural interaction with the Damara tribe. Dinner at a lodge nearby. |
| Day 11 |
The " Great White Place of Dry Water". The Etosha National Park . After setting up camp at Okaukuejo we spend an extensive period out in the field, searching for the animals that are prolific to the central area of Etosha. Tonight we relax at the waterhole, waiting for the nocturnal creatures. Photographic opportunities are unmatched. |
| Day 12 |
Up before sunrise for an early morning game drive to wake the animals. After a period out in the field, return for a well-earned brunch. The afternoon finds us in the landy searching new areas, waiting at a strategic waterhole or game paths. |
| Day 13 |
The Caprivi. We depart the Etosha after a game drive excursion, and make our way north on a long, but interesting journey, showing us the true "African" face of Namibia.
We restock provisions for our Okavango Delta excursion in Rundu and camp on the banks of the Kavango River across from Angola tonight. |
| Day 14 |
A new day, first we explore the Mohango Game Reserve in search of the majestic Roan and Sable Antelope found here. Thereafter we head for a wild country. Botswana.
Travel in 4x4 over sandy conditions to the verge of the waterway and our base camp in the heart of the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta. |
| Day 15 |
An early start. A wild place. First a transfer by motorboat to our Okavango Delta swamp island. Today we finally meet Africa and camp wild under the Palm or Ebony trees. We spend the evening around the campfire enjoying the aura of wild Africa , and looking over our shoulders into the darkness. Experience the opportunity to walk with a local guide in this unspoilt Okavango Delta wilderness, or do a makoro excursion upstream, in search of the shy Sitatunga antelope or secretive Pel`s fishing owl. |
| Day 16 |
Early transfer back to our Okavango base camp and the Hills of Tsodilo is our new port`o call for this evening. After a strenuous drive, we reach the 4 separate hills, where we set up camp.
Late afternoon we explore the Male & Female Hills with a local guide.
We are sure to find signs of San occupation. The Tsodilo Hills is a sacred destination, and we come away with an awe not explained in modern civilizations. |
| Day 17 |
Ngepi Camp on the Okavango River is our next destination. Ngepi is a great birding area in which the Paradise Flycatcher and Giant Kingfisher, two of the many rare bird species, are found. A beautiful decadent camping experience. Dinner in the ethnical camp restaurant tonight. |
| Day 18 |
Crossing the border back into Botswana , we make our way to the Chobe National Park . We camp next to the park on the banks of the Chobe River . In the afternoon we do a boat cruise into the Chobe N.P., an area that abounds with Elephant, Buffalo , Hippo and many Antelope species. We hope to find the Puku Antelope, an antelope endemic to the Chobe floodplains. The park contains a multitude of aquatic bird species and the visitor is sure to observe the majestic Fish Eagle or the acrobatic Bee-eater . |
| Day 19 |
Victoria Falls in Zambia is calling. After the border crossing and a short drive we set up camp outside the bustling town of Livingstone. Today we will visit the world-famous Victoria Falls. (Entry own expense)
One great way to end a fantastic adventure is by having a second fantastic adventure: Rafting the mighty Zambezi River. Do not be afraid, as this is the ultimate way of forging a unique bond between world travellers who have become friends. |
