Flying will become more comfortable for the larger sized people if it’s up to Airbus. According to a report in Business Day Airbus is offering its clients the option of super-sized seats on its A320 aircraft. Zuzana Hrukara, Airbus’ Head of Aircraft Interiors Marketing, said that they will offer the possibility of a 20-inc (50cm) seat for larger people. In a standard Airbus A320 economy cabin there is a single aisle with three seats on each side, all 18 inches wide. To accommodate the super-size seats all aisle seats will be 20 inches wide and the other two will be reduced to 17 inches.
This new development was driven by demand from the US, but it is up to individual carriers whether or not they want it. Furthermore it is possible for airlines to charge an additional fee for the wider seats.
South African Airways has already confirmed that it is considering adding the larger seating options to its A320 wide-body fleet. Those seats will be wider, have more leg-room and will easily accommodate larger passengers, according to SAA Commercial General Manager Theunis Potgieter.
