Toka Leya Camp, Zimbabwe

The beautiful Toka Leya Camp in Zimbabwe is made up of twelve spacious en-suite safari-style tents (including three family tents) with endless vistas of the mighty Zambezi River, along with a few islands. Located in the stunning Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, just twelve kilometres away from the iconic Victoria Falls, the Camp provides a comfortable base from which to relish in a myriad of thrilling activities. The dining, lounge, and bar areas offer guests plenty of room in which to unwind, and are accentuated by an exquisite infinity pool, with meals served on the sundeck, the pool deck and dining room – all of which overlook the Zambezi.

Toka Leya’s location on the Zambezi Riverbanks and close proximity to Victoria Falls guarantees a diversity of water and land-based safari and adventure activities. These include exciting game drives into Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, which offers sightings of game such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe and rhino. There is also prolific birdlife here, including sought-after species such as half-collared kingfisher and Schalow’s turaco. Experiencing the Park on foot is an extraordinary way in which to admire the small wonders of the reserve, and to view game in general, including zebra, impala and wildebeest, as well as a myriad of bird species.

Be it a peaceful sunset cruise or an exhilarating game viewing cruise, there are plenty of picturesque vistas and fascinating wildlife to be observed from the comfort of a spacious boat. There are always plenty of hippo and crocodile, as well as a few other natural highlights. The Zambezi River is home to a few types of bream (Tilapia), which are a fine catch for any fisherman. Tiger fishing is a memorable challenge for the more adventurous fisherman, especially during the warmer months of October through to December. Victoria Falls, a World Heritage Site, straddles the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, and is the widest curtain of water in the world. Here, you will have the chance to view its powerful waters from a safe distance, as you experience the mighty spray of the Falls. There is also a small rainforest that hugs the Falls’ edge containing a diversity of mammals and birds.

Pay a visit to the local museum, markets and stores to catch a historic and contemporary glimpse into the town of Livingstone.  Guests can also visit the local village and school, where they will be taught about the local people and culture in this part of Zambia. Additional activities offered here include beautiful sunset cruises, magnificent helicopter flights, thrilling micro-lighting, canoeing, jet boating and white river rafting.

On top of boasting an extremely light carbon footprint, Toka Leya has involved itself in various projects to benefit the local Zambian community and to restore the area. In order to rehabilitate indigenous flora in the region, the Camp has a ‘Green Camp System’ that includes a greenhouse and nursery project to grow seedlings.  One of Toka Leya’s projects is a cultural visit to a close by village. Projects here are concentrated on helping children through schooling and income-producing activities.
