Maun – Okavango Delta, Botswana

With our bags and supplies packed and ready to go, we climb aboard our 4X4 vehicle armed with sunblock and hats, ready to discover the marvels of the Okavango Delta.  We make our way to the mokoro station where we are introduced to the local Tswana guides for the excursion and transfer our luggage and equipment to the mokoros (dug-out canoes). We travel by these shallow canoes among giant lily pads, tall grasses and labyrinthine channels to our camp on the edge of the Okavango. From our camp we embark on a guided walk in search of the prolific birdlife and larger mammals that inhabit the reserve. The entire area is a natural wetland spreading over approximately 1.6 million hectares of northern Botswana offering a perfect environment for the wildlife that roams here. The Okavango River rises in Angola and flows south to form a complex network of channels and swamps which then spreads out into a broad flat inland delta (the only one of its kind in the world!) We enjoy our afternoon in the wilderness and the overnight camping experience is unforgettable.
