Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria – Lake Nakuru

We depart from Lake Baringo and journey down the Rift Valley to pay a visit to Lake Bogoria – a shallow soda lake that gives us a taste of what to expect from our trip to Nakuru later in the day. Flamingos and cormorants live here, and if time permits we will get to spot some of the area’s hot springs. Making our way further down the Rift Valley we arrive in Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya’s crown gems. This reserve is dominated by its central alkaline lake, Lake Elmenteita, which attracts masses of bird species, majority of which are flamingos that feed on the lake’s algae. Sometimes these birds congregate in massive gatherings around the water’s edges, creating a pink ‘fringe’ on the lake shore. Our game drives through the Park today surround the lake, giving us lots of time to observe the plentiful birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans, storks, ibis, kingfishers, jacanas, rollers and the glossy starling. Bigger animals that live within the Park include rhino, zebra, buffalo, impala, colobus monkeys, and the rare Rothschild giraffe. Harder to see are the elusive leopard and lion. We depart from the Park and head to Nakuru for our tourist class hotel lodging and tasty dinner.
