Swakopmund – Khorixas, Namibia

We continue our exploration of the desert northward, where hot desert sands meet cold Atlantic waves. A photographic opportunity awaits at Wlotskabaken, a seaside holiday town, before we visit the Lichen Fields to learn about the lichen colonies. Over 200,000 Cape Fur Seals are huddled together in Cape Cross, known as the world’s largest seal colony. The Cape Cross was erected by Diego Cao in honor of the then king of Portugal, where the first European explorer stepped foot on Namibia’s coast in 1486. We will not be able to visit the seals at the Cape Cross Colony at times due to its inaccessibility.) From here, the road continues towards Khorixas.
