Deception Valley Lodge

Located around 120 kilometres south from Maun in Botswana, adjoining the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the wonderful Deception Valley Lodge. This place of refuge for weary travellers offers a deluxe accommodation experience, as well as one of the finest African-Kalahari encounters during which Bushmen share their comprehensive knowledge of the area. The Lodge offers guests a  chance to unwind in complete comfort, surrounded by the beauty of nature, with pristine African wilderness and the fascinating wildlife that resides within.

Deception Valley Lodge provides guests with eight private units, each equipped with a twin bedroom, a lounge, and Victorian-style bathroom with an outdoor shower. Every unit boasts lovely verandahs, from which guests can admire the enormity of the Kalahari bush that stretches far out in front of you. The Lodge also boasts a Honeymoon tent. The central complex is made up of a dining room, lounge and bar area. From the verandah, guests can view activities that take place at the nearby waterhole. A curio shop and small library make up part of the central building. The Lodge also offers a sparkling swimming pool close to the main complex, as well as a stunning boma for evening meals.

A cultural experience with San Bushmen is unforgettable, and is only one of the wonderful activities in which guests can partake in. You can spend time embarking on game drives in open 4X4 vehicles, going on night drives to explore the nocturnal species, or even bird watch from the central lodge or a waterhole hide whilst keeping a lookout for the 200+ bird species recorded in the region. Nature walks with expert guides always prove to be a fantastic way to spend your day here, during which Bushmen will educate you about their culture, survival and hunting techniques, and their remarkable knowledge of the veldt and wildlife.

During Cultural Walks, specialised guides will teach travellers about the astonishing survival of plant, animal and man in this dry, semi-desert region. During tours through the wilderness, you have the opportunity to spot the rare Kalahari lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, kudu, and if fortunate enough, the elusive brown hyena! The night drives in particular reveal an entirely new world of fascinating nocturnal species. Deception Valley is also a bird lover’s paradise, and enjoying the spectacular Kalahari Sunsets with a sundowner in hand is always a wonderful way to spend your evenings in this area.
