Lion’s Head – a Quick Escape

Lion’s Head peaks at 669 metres (2,195 ft) above sea level and is one of the iconic images of Cape Town.  Not as well known by name as Table Mountain, but together with Devils Peak the 3 makes the very popular (and world famous) backdrop to Cape Town as so often seen from Blouberg beach (as the image above depicts).

‘Capetonians’ love hiking Lions Head before (or after) work as it makes for the perfect quick escape into fresh air and beautiful vistas.  The perfect stress release!  Depending on your fitness you can do it in 30 to 50 minutes, and it provides such a nice quick work-out if you are not in the mood for the longer and more arduous hike up Table Mountain.

A true hit is toasting the sun as it sets over the ocean, or as the full moon rises over the Drakenstein Mountains. But do take note it might take you a few hours to get down on full moon evenings as this has become such a popular activity to do in recent years.
