If you are spending some time in South Africa and you are wondering what to do, here is a suggestion for you: go Shark Cage Diving! Gansbaai (approx. 170km south-east of Cape Town) offers you the ideal place for seeing these wonderful creatures of nature in real life. Just off the coast of Klein Harbour you have the infamous ‘Shark Alley’ where the adventure begins.
After a quick boat ride the cage will be placed in the water and the shark spotting can begin. The divers will be placed in a secure cage which is floating on the water, so you can keep your head above the water at all times. All you then need to do is take a deep breath and go down into the water when a shark is spotted. The sharks can get really close to the cage so you can take a good look at them. And if you don’t feel like going into the water, don’t worry, from the deck of the boat you also have an amazing view of the sharks as they are not deep under water. Also you do not need to be a certified diver to do this, anybody can go on this adventurous trip.
It’s a great way to see the great white sharks in their natural habitat, and an unforgettable experience for everybody. You can go on a trip all year round, but the high season for spotting is between March and September.
