Swimming in the ‘Devil’s Pool’, Victoria Falls

April 18, 2013

If you are looking for a completely once-in-a-lifetime-rush then swimming in the Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls is the place to visit. This famous naturally formed pool is located on the Livingstone side of the Falls, accessed via Livingstone Island. The best time to experience it is from September to January when the water levels are low. A rock barrier forms an eddy, which reduces the water current, preventing you from plummeting over the edge, however, please don’t try and stand on the edge as a number of people have slipped and fallen to their deaths. You need to be a good swimmer, as the current is strong, but there is a safety line for you to hold onto if you feel that the current is too strong for you. If you feel confident, a guide will hold your feet and you can hang over the edge of the rock barrier.

The ‘Devil’s Pool’ is the most exhilarating way to experience the awesome beauty of one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the world, if you dare!
