Looking for the Best Weekend in Cape Town

The Mother City, as Cape Town is fondly called, is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and offers locals and visitors a wide spectrum of things to do on a weekend. You won’t often hear someone say that there was nothing to do in Cape Town, as there are always events happening in and around this bustling city; there are many scenic routes to drive or view from a helicopter; mountains to climb, wine farms to visit, seas to enjoy, hiking or riding trails, museums and art galleries to explore and so much more! It all depends on your personality and what interest you as an individual. Wherever your interests lie there will always be plenty of options to keep you fully entertained!

Here are few ways to enjoy a weekend in Cape Town filled with excitement!

  • Helicopter rides

Sweep that special person in your life off the ground and into the air to experience Cape Town, the vast coastline or the historical Robben Island from high above in a magical helicopter ride.  A helicopter ride is one of the top three “have to do” excursions in Cape Town. The most picturesque ride in Cape Town is the flight to Cape Point. There are a few choices of companies that take off from the Waterfront – which is the perfect spot for a romantic evening dinner, or a few sundowners.

  • Malay Cooking Course

During the winter months, there is nothing more personal than learning to cook together, hearing stories told of the Cape Malay history and their culture. You can spend the evening chatting about this experience as you eat the food you have prepared yourselves over a glass of wine, with a lovely indoor fire going making it a weekend to remember. Book a Malay Coooking Course.

  • Hop on Hop off City Sightseeing Bus

This is an inexpensive exciting way to sightsee major attractions in and around the city in the open top red bus. The bus has been a very popular way of getting around, jumping off at a destination of choice and climbing back on once you have explored enough and are ready for another sightseeing adventure. When making a booking design your own itinerary with their assistance as you might want to stop only to take a quick picture of Table Mountain en route to the oldest Wine Estate, Groot Constantia. There are over 30 stop points and approximately 50 top attractions you can visit!

  • Explore Cape Point

Cape Point is one of the finest nature reserves in South Africa and is luckily right here in Cape Town! It features on visitors and locals “bucket list wish” of things to do. There are beautiful beaches in Cape Point, the Buffels Beach being the most popular for a day outing and braaing,  Diaz Beach where the old lighthouse is, Olifantsbos Beach which is ideal for family picnics and Maclear Beach that attracts divers and fishing if you have the relevant permits to do so. All the beaches are family friendly and some are favoured more than others for their own personal reasons.

  • Horse Riding Trails

There are a few horse riding trails in Noordhoek, Stellenbosch and various farm areas such as Wellington. Stellenbosch Game Reserve Horse Riding Trails is on a Game Reserve from horseback you can see other wildlife like springbok, kudu, wildebees, bontebok, giraffe, eiland, zebra and bird life. They offer two guided trail packages so choose the option that would suit your needs if you don’t just want to do the ride but want to include the wine tasting option which is also a longer ride. They also cater for bigger groups if it is not just you and your partner.  If you are wanting a horse riding trail on the beach, Sleepy Hollow Horse Riding in Noordhoek would be an option. One does not have to be experienced in riding as the tour guides are experienced but both will have their own set of rules of do’s and don’ts.

  • Abseil Down Table Mountain

When in Cape Town, Table Mountain is always included in the top things to do. Instead of hiking up Table Mountain, take the cableway and then abseil down. Abseiling down Table Mountain is the highest abseil in the world, at 1000 meters! The perfect adventure junkie activity! The view on the way down is simply spectacular and something you will never forget.

Visit the vibrant city of Cape Town – a burst of culture, history, art and experiential activities!
