The Grahamstown National Arts Festival

The Grahamstown National Arts Festival is a highlight of the cultural event calendar of the year in South Africa. With so much diverse talent from all over the country, this event is not to be missed. The Grahamstown National Arts Festival promises a colourful line-up of drama, dance, comedy, opera, performance art, live music, jazz, film, art exhibitions, theatre, crafts, workshops, children’s entertainment, tours of the city and fringe shows for the more open-minded audiences.

You can hire a car and make the journey a fun road trip with friends, or you can book a flight and then travel the 120km to Grahamstown using a taxi or shuttle. There is plenty of accommodation available from Bed and Breakfasts, Backpackers, Hotels, Guesthouses, Self-catering houses, flats and even a few budget accommodations at schools. Often the best experiences are had when you camp with your friends for a rustic stay that suits the vibe of the Grahamstown National Arts Festival.

You can keep costs low by taking your own food, but there is such a wide variety of restaurants, bistros, coffee shops and street food that spending a few extra rand on these is worth it.
