The Most Instagrammed Destinations in Africa

In this digital age, almost all of us use social media (and almost all of us are photographers too). We look for ways to improve our photography skills, and we yearn for that picture perfect moment that’ll bring with it the ultimate opportunity to get a few incredible shots which we can share with our friends. While this very paragraph may seem rather ‘negative’ and just another ‘shallow millennial’ reality; for us travellers, social media is a fantastic way to document our travels, and inspire other travellers just like us to explore extraordinary corners of the world.

We don’t only use social media to share our own memories; it’s also a place we turn to to see what others are doing, where they’re travelling, and where we should consider travelling to next.

In light of that, we thought you’d be intrigued to find out more about the most instragrammed destinations in Africa. Because, as you may know, only the most beautiful, extraordinary pics make it to the gram – so a lot can be said for this list!

Photographers’ top destinations in Africa

Gorillas (Lake Bunyonyi)

Bwindi National Park, Uganda

It’s not surprising that Bwindi National Park made it to the ‘most instagrammed’ list. This is where you’ll find one of the world’s most endangered, and arguably the most majestic creatures on the planet; the Mountain Gorilla. It is here where travellers can take the gorilla trek which gives visitors the extraordinary opportunity to visit them in their natural habitat. Bwindi, however, is not only special for this reason alone; it is also said to be one of the world’s most beautiful jungles.

Broaden your horizons – visit Africa’s favourite jungle, Bwindi National Park.

Masai Mara, Kenya

The Masai Mara is yet another favourite destination, and again, it’s no surprise! The lush green grasslands, filled with the presence of some of the world’s most beautiful wildlife species makes the Masai Mara a pure paradise. Travellers typically visit the Masai Mara not only to enjoy unrivalled wildlife safaris, but to also indulge in extraordinary activities such as hot air ballooning!

The Pyramids of Giza, Egypt

Isn’t it just fascinating how diverse Africa is? From grasslands and mountainous regions to vast desert terrain, Africa certainly is one of the most incredible continents. But not only is it rich in beauty and diverse landscapes, Africa is also rich in history – and the Pyramids of Giza prove just that!

Okavango Delta, Botswana

The Okavango Delta is one of the most picturesque corners in all of Africa. It is a swamp-like region in Botswana, which attracts a plethora of wildlife due to the amount of water that accumulates in the region even during Botswana’s harsh, dry summers. It’s the ideal place to go if you’re looking for an authentic wildlife safari, and it even offers visitors the opportunity to take water safari’s. If you visit the Okavango Delta, you’re likely to see the big five, as well as elephants bathing, hippos swimming and perhaps even some crocs circling about.

Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique

Not many are aware of the pristine landscapes found in Mozambique. The Bazaruto Archipelago is just one of Mozambique’s pristine locales. The archipelago is a group of six islands situated off the coast and is the epitome of paradise. With it’s white sand beaches, coral reefs, colourful marine life and even sand dunes, it is certainly is one of the most unusual places, which is probably just one reason why it’s so insta-worthy!

Not only is the falls absolutely breathtaking, but the surrounds make for an incredible backdrop.

The Serengeti, Tanzania

The Serengeti in Tanzania, with its golden grasslands, extraordinary ecosystems and unusual landscapes is one of Africa’s most photographed places. Many wildlife documentaries have been filmed here, as it is also the stage in which some of the most incredible natural phenomenons play out, such as the Great Mammal Migration. The Ngorongoro Crater situated near to the Serengeti is also one of the most highly photographed areas.

Sossusvlei, Namibia

Not only has the desert dunes of Namibia attracted the photographers in a big way, but so has Deadvlei; the dry marsh landscape located at the foot of Namibia’s biggest dune, Dune 45.
