Travelling Challenges in Botswana

Although beautiful and a very popular tourist destination, there are a few travelling challenges in Botswana.

One of the major challenges in Botswana is the weather. July is the rainy season leaving a watery mud pool over the entire region which obviously makes game driving very difficult. Not only is it affected by local rainfall, but also by rain as far away as Angola as the water is channeled to the Okavango Delta. You may think charting an aircraft may be the best way to view the area, and it is, but don’t forget the plane has to land and take off and the airstrips are in very bad repair with potholes and muddy areas. Often charters have to be cancelled at the last minute due to sudden thunderstorms that turn a perfectly beautiful day into a pilot’s nightmare.

Something else to keep in mind is that the vegetation is very lush and overgrown, making traversing the terrain difficult and sometimes wild animals appear out of nowhere!

Keep all of this in mind when booking your trip and please speak to one of our consultants if you have any further queries. They will be able to tell you when is the best time to go depending on the experience you are looking for.
