Your culinary adventure begins in the morning with a drive to Franschhoek, a gem inside South Africa’s winelands. During your tour, your guide will share his knowledge about the small town that he knows like the back of his hand. Franschhoek is a great place for your first lunch together (at own cost) and will give you an idea of what to expect on this special tour around the Cape region. Afterwards, you will return to Stellenbosch and check into the WedgeView Country House. Make yourself comfortable and relax before you begin enjoying your first wine tasting at a nearby winery in the late afternoon. This will be your first opportunity to taste the unique wines of South Africa. You will be staying at WedgeView Country House for the night.

Breakfast is undoubtedly one of the most important meals of the day. We would recommend not digging in too deeply today as you will be visiting one of the popular Food & Farmers’ Markets close to Stellenbosch. It is not only possible to purchase quality artisanal and handcrafted products here, but also to sample delicious food and beverages. Enjoy a varied selection of wines and craft beers, as well as local delicacies. Every bite and sip will be infused with the passion and love of South Africa’s locals. You have the afternoon to relax after filling your tummy and processing many impressions. Attend an exclusive wine tasting followed by a delicious dinner (at own expense) in a Stellenbosch restaurant. A second night is spent at the WedgeView Country House.

Day 3: Stellenbosch – Hermanus – Swellendam, South Africa

The winelands will be left behind for a short period of time as you travel to the ocean. You can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean while traveling one of the most stunning coastal roads in the country. There are some stretches of the road that will bring you so close to the water that you might be tempted to jump in. You may have the opportunity to view whales from shore in Hermanus, the whale-watching center. If the season is right, you will have the opportunity to see whales even from shore. We recommend having lunch at an excellent fish restaurant right by the ocean (at your own expense) with your guide. You can sample some of the region’s delicious cheeses during an afternoon cheese farm tour when you visit a cheese farm in the area. Following this, you make your way to the Augusta de Mist Country House in the small town of Swellendam, where you will stay for the next two nights. Your exciting day concludes with a delicious dinner at a local restaurant (at your own expense).

Visit this beautiful nature reserve on a variety of hiking trails that cater to different fitness levels and lengths. Learn about the local plants, observe birds and small animals as you spend time in nature. We recommend visiting De Hoop Nature Reserve instead during the whale watching season (June to November). Taking in the horizon while gazing at the white dunes, a gentle giant of the ocean can be seen in the distance. The afternoon can then be spent at your leisure in Swellendam. You can either take a quick nap or go for a walk around the historical town of Swellendam with your guide. An excellent dining experience awaits you at the Augusta’s in-house restaurant during the evening. You also spend an additional night at the Augusta de Mist Country House.

While enjoying the impressive view of the pond, the vines, and the mountains, sit on the deck and enjoy a glass of local wine. Late in the afternoon, you will return to Tulbagh.
