The Serengeti inhabits enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra, grazing on the ripened grass. Leaving the Serengeti we travel south easterly towards the extremely beautiful Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Making a stop at the Olduvai Gorge where we enjoy a picnic lunch and spend the night at a lodge at the crater rim.

The Olduvai Gorge slices through layers of rocks of over 2 million years old where the first bones of the human species were found. Fossil foot prints can be found here and are the most ancient yet discovered. An opportunity to visit an excellent museum that educates you about the history of this area and where you can explore the ancient diggings. This is also a magnificent place to view birds such as the purple grenadier, speckle fronted weaver, slate-colored boubou and red and yellow barbet.

Waking up this morning, you enjoy breakfast at your own leisure before descending into the crater for an entire day where you explore the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is also known as the 8th Natural Wonder of the World with the crater attracting large amounts of wildlife. It was formed over 2 million years ago by volcanic mountain sinking due to inactivity. Since then it has evolved to a unique and fundamental part of Tanzania’s eco-system with a sustained amount of water.. Home to about 30 000 different animals as well as a huge amount of birds, the crater has become a sanctuary for these species.
