12 Day Great East African Lodge Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park, Tanzania

We start the tour making our way to the Tarangire National Park. Home to a variety of animals including elephant herds. The Tarangire River has stunning grasslands, recurring swamps and not forgetting the life-giving Tarangire River. Besides spotting elephants, you see giraffes, bushbacks, dik-diks, waterbucks and reedbucks throughout the year. We head to the Lake Burunge Tented Camp after our game drive and spend the night here.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Tarangire Area – Mto wa Mbu – Karatu, Tanzania

After breakfast we take a short drive to Makuyuni for a cultural visit to a traditional Masai Village. Leaving the village, we reach the ethnic town of Mto wa Mbu for a hearty traditional lunch. Our next stop is Karatu which we will reach in the afternoon. The change in scenery is amazing – from dry plains to more fertile regions. Capture the beauty of these moments on film. After settling in at camp for the evening, Endoro Lodge, feel free to enjoy an optional walk to the coffee plantation for an educational tour.

You may even be able to spot the almost extinct black rhino. We will take an extensive game drive before exiting the crater in the early afternoon.

We then journey to the Serengeti National Park which is world renowned for the largest animal migrations that take place here.  Zebras and wildebeests cross the border from the Serengeti to seek out fresh grass and water in the Masai Mara. Hungry predators follow closely on their tails. Your stay this evening will be in the middle of the Serengeti at the Kati Kati Tented Camp.

Continuing to live up to its reputation, the reserve has the highest lion population in all of Africa. Be sure to spot other species of cats such as leopards and cheetahs throughout the year.
