Tour Reviews

Review by Marc V:

We had a fantastic trip! Never mind the border hassles, it’s all just memories and travel stories by now. We really enjoyed every bit of the trip and I’d like to think that everybody else on the tour felt the same way.We are certainly not put off by going back to Africa (I’m back in Mali right now), and have already considered other trips.

Although a bit premature right now, we were discussing the possibility of doing the “southern circle” at some point. We shall certainly let you know as things concretize. Thanks again, Huntley, for all your excellent support and time.

Review by Diana:

The entire camping tour was amazing. I must first acknowledge the effort and dedication that our tour guide/friend made throughout the trip. Johan was patient, funny and always willing to accommodate every need.

Review by Myriam Dierick (sourced from operator):

Fantastic tour with fantastic guide driver cook Christopher. We saw so much. I will remember this trip till the end of my days with stories to tell my grandchildren. go .do it. Impossible by self-drive to do and see same.

Review by Christian (sourced from operator):

When I booked the trip I didn’t really expect to come to the journey of my life (until now). The whole experience was the most amazing and awesome adventure I ever did so far. Tony showed us his Africa with more than just passion. In these 24 days we visited South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe which is amazing. But the whole group made it just better. I am really crossing fingers we will find a way to reunite after some years and still think about this trip being one of the best we have ever had.

Review by Emmy Lind (sourced from operator):

The whole tour has been amazing! I have learned so much about the animals and the culture in Africa. I will remember this tour for the rest of my life. I loved it! I have always been dreaming about going to Africa and now my dream came true.

Review by Tiril (sourced from operator):

An amazing trip and a excellent and social way to travel and see beautiful Africa.

Review by Ilja Depoortere (sourced from operator):

These 24 days were exceptionally well organised. I can not find anything that could be better – I enjoyed the whole trip. The guide was great and turned this trip into an unforgettable experience.

Review by Eric Ramm (sourced from operator):

Albert was an excellent guide. The desert walk and the game drives were amazing due to his knowledge and insight. The Desert Camp, Okavango Delta, and Hwange were highlights on the trip.

Departing from the ‘Mother City’, and following the view of the majestic Table Mountain from across the bay, we journey northward through the ‘Swartland’ and along the West Coast making our way into Namaqualand. In the beginning of Spring, this normally desolate area comes to life with the blossoming of countless desert-adapted flower species.

Enjoy the contrast of scenery on our journey today. From vast open spaces to dramatic rock formations in the Cederberg. Our journey is long (570kms) to our accommodation in Springbok.

After our gear has been packed into our two-man canoes, we head off into the wild. The Orange River forms an incredible sight – a green ribbon snaking its way through the desert and enormous mountains of the Richtersveld National Park. We spend the evening camping beneath the skies.

Day 3: Fish River Canyon, Namibia

Today we make our way directly to the magnificent Fish River Canyon, the second biggest of its kind in the world. This 160 km long ravine has been carved over hundreds of millions of years as a testament to nature’s inexorable power and as evidence of past ice ages and raging torrents. Currently, the Fish River only flows in the summer months, resulting in pools of stagnant water during the dry winter months. As we peer over the lip of the canyon, we will be able to observe the work of nature. Hobas is a nearby campground where we camp.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Hobas Camp – Camping (2 person dome tent)
Included Highlights: Fish River Canyon
Distance: 160 km

Day 4 – 5: Fish River Canyon – Namib, Namibia

Taking a beautiful scenic route into the true Namib, we arrive at Greenfire Desert Camp, our home for the next two nights. Our camp is located on our private Nature Reserve situated within the Namibrand Nature Reserve and is home to a variety of desert-adapted animals and plant life. The camp is incredibly constructed against a rock outcrop between the giant mountains and red dune-fields. The reserve offers visitors a unique and private desert experience, spectacular views, and the opportunity to explore the vibrant, living desert, which is home to plants and animals that have adapted ingeniously to its environment.

The following day our guide accompanies us on a morning walk so we can gain a closer understanding of the desert and its unique geology and ecology. In the heat of the day, it is common for guests to relax at the camp, enjoy a cold drink and the plunge pool, while the energetic are free to explore nearby rock formations, birdwatch, or sit alone on a rock, captivated by the changing colors of the vast landscape. Afterwards, we take a desert drive in an open vehicle in search of gemsbok and bat-eared foxes, and then have a traditional sundowner drink while watching the red sunset. Once it has become dark, we slowly drive back to the campsite, hoping to see some of the nocturnal animals common to the region, such as porcupines, aardvarks, and brown hyenas.

From our comfortable and well-appointed camp located on the edge of one of the largest lagoons, we will be able to explore the region. Our tour includes gliding along reed-lined channels in a mokoro, walking on uninhabited islands, and picnicking in the wilderness while learning from local guides about the animals and plants of the Delta.
