An early morning rise will allow us to see the sun bring the dunes to life with a red hue. We clean and pack up the camp site and then travel on one of the most scenic Kalahari roads, riding over sky high dunes which offer spectacular vantage points. We are heading to Keetmanshoop, then Fish River Canyon – the second largest canyon in the world. We will spend some time here before another highlight of the day – the hot springs in Ais-Ais located in the depths of the canyon.

Day 5: Fish River Canyon – Aus, Namibia

In the morning we will take a quick walk around the canyon before taking a trip on the remote roads to the southernmost point of our journey – the gushing Orange River. Then it is off to the Namib Desert to the quaint town of Aus where we will rest for the night.

Day 6: Aus – Luderitz – Kolmaskop – Aus, Namibia

We arise early to cross the open desert plains that will lead us to the Atlantic Ocean and our first stop of the day at the Ghost Town of Kolmanskop. This area used to be a working Diamond mine, but now the town is slowly being reclaimed by the ever-shifting desert sands. We enjoy an entertaining tour that leads us through the historical sites of the town. Next on the agenda is the small harbour town of Luderitz, a very inhospitable coast. We take a trip to the cross planted by Dias in 1487 and learn more about this town. In the afternoon we head back to the desert with a stop-over where we spend time with a colony of wild desert horses. We enjoy a lunch which will be at your own expense.

Day 7: Namib Nature Reserve, Namibia

An exciting day awaits us after a leisurely morning walk into the town and visiting a local hotel. We travel into the heart of the Namib with its wide open plains, red dunes and huge mountains of stone. Over the following two nights we lodge at the Greenfire Desert Camp, a remote camp nestled against a rock outcrop. This is a conservancy that is part of the Namib Rand Nature Reserve.
