Itinerary

Day 1: West Coast, South Africa

The tour begins at 06.30am from Sea Point (Mojo Hotel) Cape Town and its recommended that you book a pre night within Cape Town at the hotel, or in the area to ensure that you are in time for the start of your tour.

Departing from the ‘Mother City’ we take one final view of the majestic Table Mountain from across the bay, we then journey northward through the ‘Swartland’ and along the West Coast making our way into Namaqualand. In the beginning of Spring, this normally desolate area comes to life with the blossoming of countless desert-adapted flower species.

Enjoy the contrast of scenery on our journey today. From vast open spaces to dramatic rock formations in the Cederberg. Our journey is long (570kms) to our accommodation in Springbok.

Day 2 – 3: Orange River, Namibia

We make our way across the border and into Namibia today, then journey a brief distance to our base camp situated on the Orange Riverbank where we prepare for our canoe expedition. The Orange River forms an incredible sight – a green ribbon snaking its way through the desert and enormous mountains of the Richtersveld National Park. We spend two nights in comfortable accommodation and on the second day we enjoy a long canoe trip down the river. As the day winds to an end we will return to our accommodation to take in the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Day 4 – 5: Fish River Canyon – Namib, Namibia

We make our way directly to the magnificent Fish River Canyon, the second biggest of its kind in the world. Following a visit to the numerous viewpoints and exploring the rim of the Canyon, we carry on into the true Namib f en route to our accommodation for the following two nights.

Our lodge is located on our private Nature Reserve situated within the Namibrand Nature Reserve and is home to a variety of desert-adapted animals and plant life. The lodge is incredibly constructed against a rocky outcrop between the giant mountains and red dune-fields. In order to gain a greater understanding of the surrounding desert, we conduct a guided walking tour with our guide during our stay here. At the lodge, guests may relax during the heat of the day or choose to explore the surrounding area on foot if they so desire. In the afternoon, we will take a desert drive. A traditional sundowner drink is served at a suitable location during our drive. When the sun begins to set, we slowly make our way back to the Lodge in the hope of encountering some nocturnal animals that are adapted to living in the desert.

Day 6: Sossusvlei, Namibia

We have a leisurely start today, journeying straight to the Sossusvlei dune-fields. The final part of our travels to the dunes will be through heavy sand, for which we make use of an open 4X4 vehicle with an opportunity to explore Sossusvlei and Deadvlei on foot. Once we have made our way to the dune summits for magnificent views, we head back to our vehicle and carry on to the unusual trading post of Solitaire.

We have a brief distance to travel, crossing the Kuiseb Canyon and the Naukluft Park toward the seaside town of Swakopmund where we spend two evenings at the Amanpuri Lodge. We have a full day of exploring this town that is rich in history, culture and activities.

Day 8: Swakopmund, Namibia

Our lodging provides the perfect location for some exploration of Swakopmund. Make an effort to try out the nightlife in Swakopmund, as well as delicious dinners out at the local restaurants (own expense).

Day 9: Brandberg, Namibia

We travel north up the Skeleton Coast today, to the seal colony of Cape Cross before making our way back inland. We journey through the desert to pay a visit to the rock paintings of the Bushmen at Brandberg, after which we spend the evening at the base of the mountain. We try our best to spot the elusive desert elephant.

Days 10 – 11: Etosha National Park, Namibia

Today we make our way into the beautiful Etosha National Park for a magnificent wildlife game-viewing experience throughout the afternoon. We head back to our accommodation and then enjoy an evening of game viewing at a floodlit waterhole. The next day we then continue through the Reserve, game driving to the other side of the Park where we will stay in relative comfort.

Days 13 – 14: Okavango Delta, Botswana

Today we cross the boarder into Botswana to make our way to the Okavango Delta. The Delta is created as water from the highlands of Angola that gush out over the flat Kalahari Desert sands, forming a lush green paradise for bird and wildlife.

Located on the edge of one of the largest lagoons, our comfortable and well-appointed camp will provide us with the opportunity to explore the region. Our tour includes gliding along reed-lined channels in a mokoro, walking on uninhabited islands, and picnicking in the wilderness while learning from local guides about the animals and plants of the Delta. In this isolated wilderness, we will be able to learn about the local people and their way of life through informal interaction with the guides. Taking a refreshing dip in the pool or relaxing on a beautiful wooden deck overlooking a glistening lagoon will be among the many things we can do during our stay. A sunset cruise on a boat will provide us with a relaxing experience. To experience the vastness of the Delta from the air, it is recommended that you take a helicopter flight (own expense).

We enjoy our time here exploring the area where local guides educate us about the animals and plants that call the Delta home. We will also have time to learn about the locals way of life in this wilderness.

This morning we enjoy lazing by the swimming pool and enjoying a midday brunch. We suggest joining the local village walk where you learn more about the daily life of the locals. We enjoy an early lunch and afterward we set off east to the enormous Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. The area may look stark, but there is plenty of birdlife and other animals that have made the desert their home. Without leaving a trace we travel to a remote area and enjoy the serenity of the area. We make our way to our accommodation for the evening after exploring this magnificent area.

Day 17: Kasane – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Travelling north we head to the world famous Chobe National Park home to large amounts of elephants. We take a boat cruise in the afternoon along the river before crossing the border and heading for the last destination of our trip – Victoria Falls. Your tour comes to an end here.
