The picturesque shoreline is what postcards are made of and here you will find sandpipers, gulls and oystercatchers scavenging for food. You are not allowed to collect any of these or other sea creatures without a license. Before we reach Strandfontein we will take a short walk to the Heerenlogment Cave close to the small town of Graafwater.

Day 4: Strandfontein to Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa

Today we visit the Augrabies National Park that was dubbed “Aukoerebis” which means “Place of big noise” in Nama because of the powerful waterfall. When the Orange River is in flood the falls plummets 56 metres over rocks before narrowing for 18 metres and then spreading out again and continuing its journey to the ocean. The vegetation is mostly succulents where you will find aloes, acacias and the Namaqua fig. Desert-adapted animals live here and you may see flat lizards, rock hyrax (dassie), klipsringer and the Hartmann’s mountain zebra.

Day 5: Augrabies Falls National Park to Kgalagadi Transfronteir Park, South Africa

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a combination of the Kalahari Gemsbook National Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok Park in Botswana. It borders Namibia on the west. The park covers an area of 3.6 million hectares which is significant in size and is one of the few large parks in the world. The landscape is made up of sparse vegetation, red sand dunes and dry river beds which allows you to get great views of antelope and predators. We will be staying just outside the park.

Day 6: Kgalagadi Transfronteir Park, South Africa

Today we go on a full day’s game drive in our comfortable overland vehicle. The land is incredibly beautiful with stark contrasts of red sand dunes and deep blue sky. Look out for the famous Black-mane Kalahari lions that make for amazing photographic opportunities.

Day 7: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to Seeheim, Namibia

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 8: Seeheim to Sesriem, Namibia

We will be visiting Sesriem today which means ‘six belts’ and was named by the Dorsland Trekkers who evidently had to tie together 6 belts (made of oryx hide) to reach water at the bottom, of the Sesriem Canyon. This is a natural canyon made of sedimentary stone.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: Bungalow/Lodge

Day 9: Sesriem, Namibia

We will set off for Dune 45 in the cool of the morning and enjoy a walk at this peaceful time of the day. The dunes were created by sand that was blown from the west coast of the Orange River. The Namib, a minimum of 55 million years old, is regarded as the oldest desert in the world. The sand is red due to the high levels of iron oxide. Later in the afternoon we will visit the Sesriem Canyon, quite ‘small’ as far as canyons go, but beautiful to walk around in.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Bungalow/Lodge
Entrance fees included: Sesriem – Namib Naukluft Park
Activities Included:  Dune 45, Sesriem Canyon, Transfer to Sossusvlei

Day 10: Sesriem to Windhoek, Namibia

Today you will get to explore Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. This tiny capital town has loads of interesting things to offer.  One of the most famous is the display of 33 meteorites, the Gibeon Meteorites in the Post Street Mall. You are able to touch these extra-terrestrial bodies because they are corrosive resistant due to the high amount of nickel in them. You can either shop till you drop or enrich your mind by visiting the many many museums and historical buildings within walking distance around the town centre. The beautiful Christ Church is built in a true Gothic style and is beautiful testament to the architecture of this century. Today is where some of your travelling companions will leave us and new ones join. You can enjoy a farewell dinner out with everyone tonight to say your goodbyes at one of the famous restaurants. Your crew might change tonight, but please be assured that we are all committed to giving you the same excellent service.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: Comfort Hotel
Optional activities: Explore the city and market

Day 11: Windhoek to Ghanzi, Namibia

We take a long drive today to the eastern part of Namibia where we will cross the border into Botswana and head for the middle of the Kalahari Desert. In Maun you will hopefully be able to go on a flight on a small fixed wing aircraft for a bird’s eye view of the Delta (optional). You will get a fair idea of the magnitude of this massive mix of land and water with its intricate system of channels and islands. A mokoro is what the locals use to travel in and it is a traditional dug-out canoe steered with a wooden pole that guides you through the waters. You will sit back in the mokoro and have a spectacular view of the surroundings – an up close experience of Africa. We will stop along the island and enjoy a nature walk for a few hours.
