Itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town, South Africa

Following a briefing of the tour, we leave Cape Town at 8am and pay a visit Hout Bay harbour on our way to the African Penguin colony (Boulder’s Beach) on the way to Cape Point Nature Reserve. We test out some of Cape Town’s wonderful local cuisine at the famous V&A Waterfront.

Includes: Entrance fees to Penguin colony & Cape Nature Point
Overnight: Sweetest Guesthouses – is a collection of individually decorated houses in a metropolitan area of Cape Town near the V&A Waterfront. The group may be spread amongst any of the houses, within walking distance of each other, and the group breakfasts will be taken in the same house. Rooms are twin with en-suite facilities (or similar guest house).

Day 2: Cederberg, South Africa

The Cederberg is an enormous jagged landscape where massive sandstone boulders have been shaped by wind and rain into strange, yet weirdly artistic formations. At midday we explore this rough terrain on foot, getting us closer to nature.

Day 3: Gariep River, Namibia

Today we journey into more barren areas and once we make our way into Namibia, we head to the lodge at the Gariep River. The riverbed is sandy, with clean and clear water. Here, we have some free time to devote to swimming and unwinding or adventuring down the river in canoes!

Accommodation: Gariep River, twin share cabanas with en suite facilities. Bar, restaurant, telephone. Internet cafe available.

Day 4: Fish River Canyon, Namibia

Today we travel to Fish River Canyon, the second biggest canyon in the entire world. During midday, we marvel at the incredible sunset that slips away behind the rim of the Canyon.

Days 5 – 6: Namib Desert, Namibia

The gigantic red sand dunes of Sossuvlei create a gateway into the Namib Desert. We take time to walk into Sossusvlei, explore the Sesriem Canyon and marvel at the vibrant sunsets over the world’s tallest sand dunes.

Accommodation: Desert Camp – twin share permanent tents with en suite facilities. Restaurant, swimming pool & bar. WiFi not available

Distance Covered: +/- 550kms  ± 7½ hours excluding stops for sightseeing & lunch
Optional activities: On arrival at Sossusvlei the guide will walk with the group into Sossusvlei (+/- 3.5km). For those clients who do not want to walk, there are 4×4 vehicles that can drive you in. The 4×4, is an own expense (+/- N$50 each way) and is optional.

Sunway Sossusvlei, Namib Desert

Day 7 – 8: Swakopmund, Namibia

Lunar landscapes encircle the coastal town of Swakopmund as we make our way to the coast. We have a day at our leisure to spend exploring the town or trying our hand at dune boarding or sea kayaking – both very thrilling experiences!  We also take time to indulge in delicious meals at some of the fine local restaurants.

Day 9: Damaraland, Namibia

We make our way through gorgeous desert settings and along the barren coast to the Cape Cross seal colony before travelling inland to set up our camp beneath the Spitzkoppe, massive rocks that jut out of the desert. We admire the beautiful sunset and embark on a brief exploration hike through this fascinating region.

Day 10-11: Etosha National Park, Nambia

Formally an enormous lake fed by the Kunene River, the Etosha Pan National Park withered up thousands of years back when the river waters chose a new route. Etosha is a massive game region, thus we embark on many game drives around the giant pan in search of elephants, herds of antelope and lions wandering near the waterholes. We reside in a lodge situated on the outskirts of the National Park.

Overnight: Tarentaal Guest Farm – private working farm outside Etosha National Park. Twin rooms with en-suite facilities. Swimming pool, bar & telephone. (35km/25min from Anderson Gate to Etosha)

Day 12: Windhoek, Namibia

This beautiful town, situated in a valley, mixes modern city architecture with countless structures of German colonial styles. The allure of Windhoek is in its fantastic combination of African and European cultures and the hospitality of its people. We pay a visit to the diverse capital and indulge in a delicious meal at a local restaurant (own expense).
