This Southern Africa Tour highlights the best that Africa has to offer, all with the convenience of flying in and out of Johannesburg. From the desert environment of Botswana to the forests of Zambia, the tea plantations of Malawi, you will be able to experience both modern and rural homesteads, great highways and dirt roads. Itinerary

The day-by-day descriptions published are intended as a rough guideline only.

Day 1: Johannesburg – Francistown, Botswana

Leaving the Johannesburg Lodge at o6h30, we make our way straight to the Botswana border. Once we’ve completed all border formalities, we carry on through to our camp in Francistown. Our guide will inform us of what you can expect on the tour over a delicious catered meal.

Day 2: Chobe National Park, Botswana

In the morning, we journey through the Chobe forest reserves right up to the majestic Chobe River and connecting National Park where huge herds of elephant congregate at the water’s edges. Our first trip out into the wild will be on a boat cruise within Chobe National Park. We then cross the border in our safari vehicle and make our way to Victoria Falls where we will spend our next three evenings in comfort at the Greenfire Victoria Falls Lodge.

Days 3-4: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Whilst we stay in this area, will have ample opportunities to witness the incredible Victoria Falls as well as experience the highlights of this African adventure capital. Adrenaline junkies might want to try out the bungee jumping, white water rafting, or the variety of aircraft flip activities available (own expense). One of the nights, we will be treated to traditional African dancing and indulge in a tasty ‘braai’ by the poolside, and on the last night we can choose from a variety of local restaurants for a meal which will be for your account. At times we will cross into Zambia and camp on the Zambezi river banks.

Day 5: Kafue Camp, Zambia

Today we cross the original railway bridge where we get one final view of the Falls before we enter Zambia. Our travels take us through southern Zambia and then down into the Lower Zambezi Valley through to Kafue, where we spend our evening camping. This afternoon, feel free to unwind at the pool in order to prepare for our impending days of canoeing.

Days 6-8: Zambezi Canoe, Zambia

The powerful Zambezi River snakes its way through some of the greatest wilderness regions of Africa, providing us with some of the most fantastic canoeing adventures in the world. Viewing game from a quietly gliding canoe is an incredible experience for anyone. Our next two evenings are spent camping on the wild riverbanks. On our third day, we are transported by boat back to Kafue for a hot shower and a catered meal (own expense).

Day 9: Luangwa, Zimbabwe

We head off along the ‘Great East Africa Road’ to our next overnight camp. We will attempt to cross as much distance as is possible today.

Days 10-11: Lake Malawi, Malawi

We cross into Malawi today, stopping off at Lilongwe, the capital. We will stock up on food and you will have the opportunity to purchase some curios. We then continue on to the freshwater sea of Lake Malawi. Here you will have the wonderful opportunity to snorkel, laze on the sandy beaches and check out the locals as they go about their daily activities. Two nights will be spent here camping right on the beach! On one evening you will be asked to pay for your own meal.

Days 12-13: Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Today we cross back into Zambia and camp on the banks of the river which is well known for its hippo population. We will endeavour to go on as many game drives as possible to spot the elusive leopard. There is an optional night drive which will be at your own expense.

Day 14: Zambia

We leave the Park and head off along the ‘Great East Africa Road’, covering as much distance as we can before stopping at our overnight camp.

Day 15 – 16: Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe

After crossing the Zimbabwean border we head onto Lake Kariba, the third largest man-made lake in the world. We will have one full day to partake in a variety of optional activities and a boat cruise can also be enjoyed during our stay here. Our accommodation will be beside the lake.

Day 17: Kariba to Chegutu, Zimbabwe

We start the day off in a relaxing manner before we head to a private game reserve. We will visit a local school in the afternoon to interact and play with the children. Our accommodation will be in comfort.

Day 18: Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Zimbabwe

After breakfast we depart for the great historical site of the Zimbabwe Ruins. Our guide will impart valuable information about these unusual ruins and the civilisation these people lived in. We will spend the night close to the ruins.

Day 19: Matobo, Zimbabwe

An early start and breakfast will get us prepared for our trip to Bulawayo. Here we will camp among the balancing boulders of Matobo. You can look forward to a game drive and rhino tracking on foot within the park.

Day 20: Limpopo 

After another early morning rise we take a scenic route to South Africa. Border formalities will have to take place after which we will head to a private game reserve where we camp for the night. In the afternoon we will have some time to visit the fascinating San paintings.

Day 21: Bush Lodge, South Africa

We leave for the private Bush Lodge located in a game reserve which is next to the Kruger National Park. Once we have settled into our new lodgings we head off on a game drive which will take us into the dark night where we can view the activities of nocturnal animals. A warm cooked dinner will be served to you allowing you to have a good night’s rest in the African bush.

Day 22: Kruger National Park, South Africa

We leave in the morning to head for the amazing Kruger National Park where we will drive around viewing the animals from the high vantage point of the safari vehicle. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed at one of the rest spots. We will spend the night in one of the park’s rest camps.

Day 23: Kruger National Park – Hazyview, South Africa

Our entire day will be spent viewing the magnificent game before returning to the Greenfire Hazyview Lodge which is located in an indigenous forest on the banks of the Sabie River. Relax and enjoy the last night on tour in this lovely lodge.

Day 24: Johannesburg, South Africa

You can enjoy a slow start to the day and take a walk around the park before we make our way back to Johannesburg. We will arrive at the Greenfire Johannesburg Lodge in the late afternoon.
