Prepare yourselves to be swept through the beauty of Kenya and Tanzania on this circular East Africa Budget Safari. We pay visits to isolated regions and interact with the local tribes, including the famous Masai people. The conditions of the weather and roads will affect our choice of routes on each safari, thus a reasonable amount of flexibility from travellers will be required. Come with an open mind and a sense of adventure in order to get the best out of this tour. The tour requires participation from all group members. This entails assisting with the food preparation, washing of dishes, keeping the truck clean and the setting up the camp. Please keep in mind that flexibility and an open mind is needed on the trip.  The guide is registered with the Field Guide Association of Southern Africa (FGASA). The tour has been designed to include all highlights in the price and thus avoid any hidden surprises. The camping tour provides all equipment, including camp stretcher beds, tents, camp chairs. Travellers can bring supplementary mattress if desired. Travellers are required to bring sleeping bags, towels and travel pillows.

Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya

Reaching Nairobi, we gather at our hotel in the core of this vibrant city. For those arriving early, there is an array of optional activities and outings available which can be organised through the hotel. At around 18h00 you will be briefed about our tour and we will then enjoy a lovely evening meal at one of the city’s local restaurants.

Day 2: Mount Longonot, Kenya

We will travel north and leave the city in our wake as we climb the escarpment for a bird’s eye view of the Great Rift Valley. We will then head down the escarpment to see the dormant volcano. A hike in Mount Longonot will then be enjoyed where you can see the entire escarpment, including the wildlife of this region. A packed lunch will be provided. We will then take a short drive to our camp for the evening in a prime location on the shore of Lake Naivasha. A lovely dinner round the campfire will be enjoyed with your fellow travellers.

Day 3: Hells Gate National Park, Kenya

After breakfast at the campsite we travel a short distance to Hells Gate National Park where you can spot zebra, giraffe, buffalo and other species of antelope. We head down into the gorge before going back to camp for lunch and then a lovely boat cruise on Lake Naivasha. Here you can look out for hippo and a see a wide variety of birds. A relaxing drive will be enjoyed to Elsamere, the former home of George and Joy Adamson (conservationists who raised lion cubs and then set them free). We will enjoy a traditional afternoon tea and an insight into their intriguing lives. We will then return to camp in the late afternoon for a ‘lekker’ South African braai.

Day 4: Masai Mara, Kenya (2 x Night Mara River Lodge Upgrade)

Today we travel through some of Kenya’s most wonderful wilderness, making use of lesser-known roads, passing various Masai villages en route. Our accommodation will be along the banks of the Mara River on a private concession. We will have long game drives around here.

Day 5: Masai Mara, Kenya

We make our way into the Park in the early hours of the morning in order to embark on a lengthy day of game driving. The Masai Mara is famous for its massive herds and many predators. We make a point to follow the seasonal migrations. We enjoy a picnic lunch on the Mara riverbanks, renowned for its large crocodile and hippo concentrations. We then head back to the lodge for the evening.

Day 6: Lake Victoria, Tanzania

Departing from the Masai Mara, we make our way into Tanzania and then climb down toward the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake. This lake makes up part of the Great Rift Valley and provides a livelihood for plenty of locals who fish in its waters. We then leave the Masai Mara and enter Tanzania before descending towards Lake Victoria. In the evening we will enjoy a dinner at one of the local restaurants at your own expense. We camp on the lapping water’s edge.

Day 7: Serengeti, Tanzania

Today we make our way into the Serengeti National Park – the world’s most acclaimed wildlife sanctuary. This Park boasts massive populations of game with countless predators and birdlife all living on the never-ending grasslands and acacia-covered plains, which is the epitome of a true African game park. We will explore the Park from west to east, embarking on several exciting game drives, and we will spend our evening at the bustling Seronera campsite.

Day 8: Serengeti 

An early morning rise with the animals will prepare us for a full day of exploring the park. Our guide will take the time to explain life in the bush while we drive around take it all in. A picnic will be held in the bush which is always an enjoyable experience. We set up camp in the park and have dinner prepared by our guide.

Day 9: Serengeti – Ngorongoro

We will take a long game drive in the morning heading for the Ngorongoro Conversation area where the Masai Tribe herd their cattle and live as they have done for centuries. Our camp is on the edge of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater where you can enjoy stunning views.

Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater

We make an early start to descend into the crater. The going is slow because it is a steep descent, but you will have great views. You can expect some of the finest game viewing with close encounters with animals like black rhino. We will spend the night at the bottom of the crater in an established village that is home to the Masai people.

Day 11: Arusha, Tanzania

Awaking in the early morning, the activities of the people in the village will get us up and going. We will be travelling to Arusha at the foothill of Mount Meru where we will spend time shopping and exploring. Dinner can be enjoyed at a local restaurant.

Day 12:  Transfer to Nairobi, Kenya

This morning, everyone will be transferred to the shuttle terminal where you will be transported back to Nairobi. This road journeys through some incredible surrounds and, on a clear day, spectacular views of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro – the tallest mountain in all of Africa can be witnessed. Those who choose to extend their stay once back in Nairobi, or those who choose to continue their journey, will be transported to the city centre.

To best enjoy this tour it should be approached with an open and flexible mentality. Road, weather, or other unforeseen conditions may necessitate changes to the itinerary and clients should be prepared for this. A pillow, towel and pillow are required for this tour. Please note bathroom facilities on the trip can be basic. Consult the itinerary for further details or ask your consultant. Visas for both Kenya and Tanzania are required by most nationalities, these are the client's own responsibility and you are advised to pre-arrange these with the respective authorities. Seasonal precautions against Malaria are advisable. The recommended currency for this tour is the US Dollar and notes in small denominations should be brought along for expenses not included. A small day pack is advisable. Our price includes transport - Nairobi to Nairobi, accommodation, entry fees, Park fees, permits, group equipment, professional guides, and most meals.
