Itinerary

Day 1: Livingstone, Zambia (Vic Falls)

You will have some time to explore your surroundings before the welcome meeting at 18h00. There are a variety of activities you can take at this World Heritage Site. You can take a microlight over the falls, go white water rafting, bungee jump or take a boat cruise. This is a wonderful opportunity to make the best of your visit to the magnificent falls.

Day 2: Livingstone, Victoria Falls

Today is the second day in which you can take part in the adventure activities provided in Victoria Falls. Take a bungee off of Victoria Falls bridge and get a different perspective of it. There are also half day or full day white water rafting adventures and a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi.

Day 3: Livingstone (Victoria Falls) to Chobe River (Kasane), Botswana

An early start to the day will get us over the border and into Botswana in good time to reach the town of Kasane before lunch. In the afternoon we will get to enjoy a sunset boat cruise and spot amazing wildlife like elephant, buffalo, kudu, bushbuck, hippo, giraffe and sable. During the Summer months you can look forward to some incredible birdlife that comes to life in and around the river. Please note that there is an optional Boat Photo Safari also available if you choose to not do the sunset cruise.

Day 4: Chobe River (Kasane) to Elephant Sands, Botswana

We will begin the day with an early morning game drive in the Chobe National Park, then in the afternoon we will set off for Elephant Sands which is situated close to Nata. There is a waterhole that Elephant Sands is famous for as it is one of the top ten in Africa that is known for prolific wildlife. Here you can get fairly close to  wild dogs, antelope and elephants on foot.

Day 5: Elephant Sands to Maun, Botswana

We travel west along the famous elephant highway which is well known for spotting elephants on the side of the road. Once in Maun you have the option of taking a spectacular bird’s eye-view over the tranquil waters of the Okavango in a light aircraft. You can get a good idea of the magnitude of this labyrinth of channels and islands. You can also spot pods of hippos and herds of buffaloes as you fly over. If you choose not to do the flight you can enjoy some quiet time back at the campsite.

OPTIONAL OKAVANGO DELTA FLY-IN 2 NIGHT DELTA EXPERIENCE

Leaving early this morning we have a long drive to the north-west of Botswana and into Maun. From there you will fly into the Okavango Delta and camp for two nights near Chief’s Island which borders Moremi Game Reserve.

Day 6: Maun, Botswana

We travel like the locals do in a mokoro or traditional dug-out canoe through the calm waters of the Okavango. The poler will guide you along as you sit back and watch daily activities of the animals around you. The length of the journey depends on the water level. We will stop for a picnic lunch along the way and enjoy a nature walk. We will then return to Maun before the sun sets over the water.

Day 7: Maun to Ghanzi, Botswana

We head to Ghanzi today for our last night in Botswana where we will visit a farm where the San Bushmen will share their ancient knowledge with us. There is an optional walk you can partake in with the bushmen and an ancient dance ceremony in the evening. The night time should bring clear skies so you can see the millions of stars up above.

OPTIONAL OKAVANGO DELTA FLY-IN 2 NIGHT DELTA EXPERIENCE

An early breakfast will get us ready for an early flight back to Maun where you will meet the rest of the group and continue on to Ghanzi. We will spend the day at a farm with the Bushmen who are eager to welcome you and spend time sharing their knowledge with you. There is also a dance ceremony that will be performed around the campsite under the starry skies.

Day 8: Ghanzi to Windhoek, Namibia

We will set off early for a long drive through the west of Botswana and across the border into Namibia. You can explore the sights during the day in the town such as the museums or craft market. Dinner can be enjoyed at one of the famous restaurants (at your own expense). Why not treat your tastebuds to something new like kudu, ostrich, impala or crocodile! Here you will find that some people will be joining or leaving the group as this is a combo tour. You may also get a new tour leader and crew, but we assure you this change over will not affect the high quality of service we offer.

Day 9: Windhoek to Etosha National Park, Namibia

Our destination today is the amazing Etosha National Park that is brimming with animals and one of Southern Africa’s most loved wildlife sanctuaries. An afternoon game drive in our comfortable truck will allow you the opportunity to test your knowledge on the variety of animals there is to spot. There are over 100 animal species such as the endangered black rhinos, pelicans, flamingos and numerous bird species. Many of the animals flock around the salt pans in the rainy season which makes for a spectacular sight. At night the animals gather around the watering hole which is close to the campsite and lit by a floodlight. You can sit here and watch as the animals come to feed and bathe while seated and safe. There are also optional night game drives.

Day 10: Etosha National Park, Namibia

You will spend the day in the comfort of the Adventure Overland Safari vehicle taking in the sights and sounds of the bush. Elephants, giraffes, antelopes, lions and other animals graze and hunt while you can view them and take photos of them from the perfect vantage point of the truck. You will sleep in the newest campsite inside Etosha National Park listening to the echoes of the bush.

Day 11: Etosha National Park to Opuwo, Namibia

Hitting the road today we head to Namibia’s Kunene Region Opuwo which is where the Himba Tribe inhabit this part of the world. Admire the rocky desert landscape of this area as you travel from the comfort of your truck. Enjoy a guided walk with the tribe as they uncover their culture for you. They clothe themselves in red ochre paint and heavy jewellery which is fascinating to see. We also visit one of the Kid’s Projects to either help with construction or deliver books and toys.

Day 12: Opuwo to Twyfelfontein, Namibia

Twyfelfontein which means ‘spring of doubt’ is our next stop on our overland safari. This area is known for the desert elephant and one of Namibia’s oldest tribes, the Damara. You can take an optional visit to the Damara Living Museum which is a project developed for the reconstruction  of the traditional culture of the Damara. By visiting here you will be contributing to preserving the culture. There are also rock engravings which portray sacred rituals and ancient art and you have the option of going on a guided walk to see these.

Day 13: Tyfelfontein to Brandberg, Namibia

We continue north to Brandberg where you can visit the famous White Lady Bushmen paintings in the Brandberg mountains (optional). The mountains are the highest point in Namibia at 2 573 metres above sea level. The walk is about 2 hours long and it is not strenuous, but in the heat it can be a bit taxing. Make sure you wear a hat, drink plenty of fluids, wear sunscreen and closed comfortable shoes. You can enjoy stunning scenery along the riverbed and the amazing orange-hue the mountain takes on from being lit up by the sun.

Day 14: Brandberg to Swakopmund, Namibia

Our destination today is the quaint town of Swakopmund where you can enjoy the cool Atlantic sea air, enjoy some cultural activities or take part in adventurous activities such as quad biking, sand boarding and skydiving. You can also enjoy some great food from the many bakeries and cafés that Swakopmund is famous for. Budget for approximately $5-12 per meal.

Day 15: Swakopmund, Namibia

There is lots to do and explore in Swakopmund and you will have plenty of time to do so today. Take a walk along the beach to see the waves crashing against the shore or visit the Kristal Gallery where you can see the largest Quartz Crystal Cluster on display (14 100 kgs). You can also browse lots of curio and book shops and purchase gifts for friends or family. If you are wanting to do something more active you can go bungee jumping, quad biking or skydiving, amongst other activities.

Day 16: Swakopmund to Boesman’s Camp, Namibia

We travel to Boesman’s Camp today which is situated on the border of the Namib Naukluft National Park, the largest conservation area in Africa. You will be taken on a guided desert walk where you will learn about the mysteries of fauna and flora of the desert, as well as the San (bushmen) in this area.

Day 17: Boesman’s Camp to Sesriem, Namibia

Today we visit Sesriem Canyon where sedimentary rock has been carved out by water erosion. We will also climb Dune 45 at 170m for spectacular views of the valley and surrounding dunes. Later on we will be transferred to the famous Sossusvlei and Deadvlei dunes.

Day 18: Sesriem to Fish River Canyon, Nambia

Prepare for a long drive to the Fish River Canyon as we head south and pass through the small towns of Helmeringhausen and Bethanien and a few farms. It will be a long day of driving, but you will be rewarded with a beautiful sunset over the canyon’s rim.

Day 19: Fish River Canyon to Gariep River

Our destination for today is the Gariep River where you can go on canoe trips (optional) to enjoy viewing the wildlife around you. We will camp on the Namibian side of the border where you can relax around the campfire and enjoy another stunning African sunset before enjoying a good night’s rest.

Day 20: Gariep River to Trawal, South Africa

We will cross the border into South Africa today where we will spend some time at a Kid’s Project in Kamieskroon  where we will play with the children. Then it is on to the famous and beautiful Namaqualand area where there are blooming flowers in early Spring. We will spend the night camping in a small vineyard farm in Trawal close to the Cederburg Mountains where you will have the opportunity to taste and buy some wine.

Day 21: Trawal to Cape Town, South Africa

We continue on to the lively city of Cape Town with its picturesque beaches and mountains. Our hotel will be close to the vibrant V&A Waterfront where there are many shops and other activities you can enjoy. Try out the delicious Cape Malay Curries or some of the fresh fish dishes to see what local cuisine is like. We suggest you extend your stay and go to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years, or take the cable car up Table Mountain for exquisite views of the peninsula.
