This inclusive Mozambique overland trip is a combination of expeditions into the famous Kruger and Hluhluwe National Parks, where wildlife roam freely around their natural habitat, as well as the recently opened Transfrontier Peace Park, Banhine / Zinave wilderness and Maputo Elephant Reserves. The Transfrontier Park includes parts of the Greater Kruger National Park combined with sections of Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

This Mozambique Overland Explorer is a combination of expeditions into the famous Kruger National Park and Hluhluwe National Parks, where wildlife roam freely around their natural habitat, as well as the Transfrontier Peace Park, Banhine / Zinave wilderness and Maputo Elephant Reserves. The tour requires participation from all group members. This entails assisting with the food preparation, washing of dishes and keeping the truck clean. Please keep in mind that flexibility and an open mind is needed on the trip.  The guide is registered with the Field Guide Association of Southern Africa (FGASA). The tour has been designed to include all highlights in the price and thus avoid any hidden surprises. On the accommodated trip all equipment is provided including linen including towels

Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg, South Africa

Leaving from Johannesburg Lodge at 06h30, we travel towards the wonderful Mpumalanga Province for some magnificent sightseeing. We will visit various highlights such as the quaint town in Dullstroom and the Three Rondavels that tower over the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. At the end of the afternoon we descend to the Lowveld section which belongs to the Greater Kruger National Park. Our accommodation tonight will be at the Bush Lodge within the Balule game reserve. We will have dinner at the lodge and then enjoy a wonderful open vehicle night game drive.

Day 2: Kruger National Park, South Africa

When the sun starts rising, we wake up and go for a walk in search of Africa’s ‘Big five’. Our guide will show us animals in their natural environment and the art of tracking. We will go back to our accommodation for a well-deserved brunch and a jump into the swimming pool before we pack our bags and travel towards the world famous Kruger National Park, which has been widely commended as Africa’s most popular Nature Reserve. We will spend three days here enjoying extensive game driving looking for the many animal and bird types that occupy the region. Our accommodation for the next three nights will be in the park.

Days 3-4: Kruger National Park, South Africa

We continue to reside in the Kruger and enjoy extensive game drives in search of large herds and predators that roam the area.

Days 5-6: Xai – Xai, Mozambique

This morning we leave the park and travel towards the border of Mozambique across the Limpopo flood plains, various villages and end up by the Indian Ocean. We will also experience the Transfrontier National Park which borders the Kruger National Park. We will spend two nights at a remote beach lodge on a large dune that divides the inland fresh water lake system from the glistening ocean. You can spend the days swimming and exploring your surroundings.

Days 7-9: Inhambane, Mozambique

Today we head north to Maxixe, following the coast. A traditional dug out canoe will transport us to the ancient trading port of Inhambane. We spend some time discovering and visiting the lively native bazaar before going further our three nights of accommodation which will be in Casitas near Barra. While we spend our days here, we take our time to rest, snorkel, and enjoy the sun whilst discovering the abandoned beaches that Mozambique is famous for. On the last night we will have a delicious catered meal (own expense). There are options available for those who wish to go scuba diving (own expense).

Day 10: Maputo, Mozambique

After relaxing and soaking in the sun, we will travel near the shoreline of the capital, Maputo, where we have some time to drive around and discover this once magnificent city. Maputo claims a Latino culture of street cafés, music and bustling markets. We stay at a comfortable hotel in Catembe for the night. In the evening we will have dinner at a local restaurant, tasting some of the excellent local seafood (own expense).

Day 11: Swaziland Game Park, Swaziland

After freshening up, we head back into the savannah grasslands. Travelling across the gravel trails, we make our way south into the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland. We will spend the afternoon exploring the game reserve before retiring to our comfortable night’s accommodation.

Days 12-13: Zululand, South Africa

We will travel back to South Africa and then enter the region once ruled by the famous Shaka Zulu. Look out for Black and White Rhino that forage in the lush surroundings. All our game drives will be conducted by experienced guides. The following two nights will be in a bush lodge in Zululand surrounded by breath-taking views.

Day 14: Johannesburg, South Africa

Our trip today brings us to the middle of KwaZulu-Natal. We will pass many Zulu villages and travel along the magnificent scenic route back to Johannesburg. We reach the Johannesburg lodge at the end of the afternoon.
