Get to know the vibrant culture of Bo-Kaap as you explore Cape Town’s vibrant neighborhood. Next, discover Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of the world’s ten most magnificent gardens according to National Geographic Travel. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope lighthouse and Boulders Beach, where you can see African penguins, and the Cape Point lighthouse.

Day 3: Cape Town, South Africa

Choose from various optional activities in Cape Town for a day of leisure. A cable car will take you to the top of the mountain, where you will be able to see the city and the Atlantic seaboard from an incredible height. Indulge in a variety of tastings and pairings in the Cape Winelands, visiting Stellenbosch and touring wine estates with experts.

The city of Cape Town has something to offer everyone. Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, or a wine tour in and around Stellenbosch are all worthwhile excursions. You can go abseiling if you’re feeling adventurous. There are many old buildings and gardens in the city center, which contains some of the oldest buildings in South Africa. There are many museums and theatres in the area, including the Cultural Historical Museum and Planetarium.

Day 4: Cape Town – Johannesburg, South Africa

We will fly to Johannesburg, then take a guided tour of the township of Soweto. A key anti-apartheid center, Soweto was the home of Nelson Mandela, the leader of the movement. Find out more about this painful chapter in the country’s history at Mandela House Museum. Join your fellow travelers for a traditional South African braai (barbecue).

Day 5: Johannesburg – Great Kruger Area, South Africa

Day 6: Kruger National Park, South Africa

Spend a full day exploring Kruger National Park, home to a diverse array of large mammals, in an open jeep. We will explore this breathtaking wilderness of savannahs and scrublands to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and possibly leopards. In the evening, we suggest returning to the lodge to relax and take in the bush sounds at night.

South Africa’s Kruger National Park covers over 19,000 sq km (7,500 sq mi), making it one of the world’s largest and most impressive animal reserves. Kruger has more large mammal species than any other park on the continent, with 147 species.

Day 7: Greater Kruger Area – Karongwe Private Game Reserve, South Africa

In the Greater Kruger area, explore Karongwe Private Game Reserve, a pristine wildlife sanctuary. Become familiar with cheetah habitat conservation efforts by National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative and learn about its cheetah metapopulation project. After that, we take the researcher on an excursion through the reserve to observe wildlife.

You’ll search for Africa’s famed Big Five in an open safari vehicle each morning and evening during your next two days at Karongwe Nature Reserve. There are many animals to be seen in Karongwe Private Game Reserve, which has over 10,000 hectares (24,710 acres) of lush African bushveld.

Accommodations are used throughout the reserve (locations are determined by availability). In the lodges or permanent tents (both of similar quality and amenities) you will stay during your stay.

Day 8: Karongwe Private Game Reserve, South Africa

With our local guides, explore Karongwe in the morning and afternoon. Our bushveld journey will take us through shrublands that are home to Africa’s famous “big five”. After returning to camp, take a stroll around the grounds or relax on the deck.

Embark on a morning safari drive as early as 5am after starting your day with a cup of coffee. After brunch, return to the lodge for a leisurely afternoon. Take a stroll through the gardens and grounds, converse on the deck, or enjoy a high tea. In the afternoon, we’ll go on a safari drive following tea. Before dinner, it’s time to freshen up at camp after seeing so much wildlife.

Day 10: Johannesburg – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

A flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, the largest waterfall in the world, is a great way to spend the day. Shop for groceries in a bustling market in a nearby village. Enjoy dinner with a local family, which includes learning about local life and culture as you participate in the preparation of a traditional Zimbabwean meal using the ingredients you picked out.

It is estimated that the mist off Victoria Falls can rise as high as 400 meters (1312 feet). In 1855, explorer and missionary David Livingstone renamed the falls after Queen Victoria after seeing them for the first time. Local tribes used to call the falls “Mosi-o-Tunya” or “the smoke that thunders”.
