There is no doubt that Bunyonyi Lake is the most beautiful lake in Uganda. Its name means ‘place of many little birds’. In addition to the winding shorelines, it is surrounded by steep terraced hillsides that will make you wonder if you are somewhere in Asia. There is nothing better than swimming in a crystal-clear lake (unlike many lakes in East Africa) that is free of crocodiles and hippopotamuses !

Route: Kampala – Lake Bunyonyi
Distance: 520 km

Day 8: Gorilla Trek, Uganda

You are about to embark on a guided mountain gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (so cool!) Get ready to embark on an unforgettable hike deep into the jungle through volcano forests alongside a park ranger in search of mountain gorillas. There is a wide variety of difficulty and length of the treks, so be prepared for a challenge, but if you are lucky enough to see these majestic creatures (we share 98% of our DNA with them), it will all be worth it.

Please note that Ugandan authorities are fiercely protecting this natural resource, and currently permit only eight visitors per day to visit a given gorilla family. It is likely that the group will be divided into different sub-groups for the trek, and depending on the number of participants, different sub-groups will trek at different times.

**The gorilla trek may take place on the second full day in Lake Bunyonyi, depending on the date of our permits.

On a 3-day and 2-night excursion into the park itself and the great Ngorongoro Crater, you will encounter abundant wildlife, vast golden plains dotted with thorny acacia trees, and rivers teeming with hippopotamus.

This trip includes a combination of 4×4 7-seater safari vehicles, accompanied by experienced safari guides and drivers, who will ensure that you have a wonderful encounter with the wildlife of the Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater. After that, we will travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. Enjoy the spectacular views from the crater rim and watch the animals meandering through the crater floor drinking water from the permanent supply. Make sure you charge your cameras and have them at the ready because, let’s face it, if you are going to see any wildlife, this would be the place (and we are so excited for you)!

This area is surrounded by crater walls and is therefore bound to animals, and due to its enclosed nature, a unique ecosystem has been created, such as grasslands, swamps, acacia forests, and Lake Makat.

Following the completion of the camera rolls, the group will exit the crater in the late morning and return to Arusha. While cruising along, swap stories, pick out your favorite photos, or simply sit back and enjoy the passing scenery.

Prepare yourself for scenic island beaches that will have you contemplating the possibility of living off the grid here. Get ready to enjoy this Tanzanian archipelago, take tons of pictures, and relax in a place that has long attracted backpackers and adventurers to its sandy shores because there are few places on earth that are as captivating and exotic as this archipelago.

Islam is the predominant religion in Zanzibar. A woman or man who is immodestly dressed or wearing shorts is likely to be harassed in Stone Town and cause offense. While customs are less strict on the beach, travellers are encouraged to respect the island’s culture by covering up when walking around. It is always a good idea to ask permission before taking a photograph.

Explore the heart of Zanzibar this morning when you wake up in Stone Town. You will pass by balconies and gigantic wooden carved doors along the way as you wind your way through the winding historic unpaved alleyways of Stone Town.

Spend hours wandering the streets and squares, sipping potent coffee from sidewalk vendors, and buying sweets from small cafes. Among the many things you should look out for are tinga-tinga paintings, antique shops, beautifully printed fabrics (kangas and kikois worn by the locals), little carved chests with copper inlays, and spices – all of which make wonderful gifts or memories to bring home. Group members will travel to Jambiani, a tropical haven, for a few days of relaxation.

Take advantage of the opportunity to wake up in this island paradise and seize the day. Imagine Africa meeting Arabia and adding the Indian Ocean to the mix as a cherry on top, and you have one of the world’s great cultural crossroads.

You may spend the day as you wish; you may dive, snorkel, board a sailing trip, or simply lounge on the beach and relax. It is Zanzibar’s tropical setting, unique culture, and lively beach party scene that make this place one of the most enjoyable East African Indian Ocean destinations.

Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Fun Beach Hotel or similar

Day 24: Stone Town, Tanzania

You will have a difficult time pulling yourself away from the beauty that surrounds you in Jambiani today. Explore Zanzibar’s heart by traveling to Stone Town on the other side of the island.
