Itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek – Kalahari, Namibia

A short tour briefing is given by your guide before you begin your desert adventure in Namibia. In order to explore Namibia’s beautiful hinterlands, you depart the main road and head south. It’s rare to see another vehicle on these backroads, since there’s little traffic. You will not get lost though, your guide knows the way. The Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch will be your lodging for the night once you see the red dunes of the Kalahari. Spend the remainder of the afternoon as you wish. If you are interested, the lodge offers a variety of optional activities.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch
Included Highlight: Desert Adventure
Distance: ± 280 km
Driving time: ± 3 hours

Day 2: Kalahari – Namib Desert, Namibia

The lodge offers an optional San/Bushman “Bushman Walk” as a way to start the day. They teach you how to survive in the harsh Kalahari climate by teaching you their ancient way of life and survival skills. As you travel westward from Namib-Naukluft, you pass through the Tsaris pass. Upon arrival at Elegant Desert Camp, you have enough time to enjoy your surroundings or participate in the camp’s sundowner drive (optional). It won’t be long before dinner is ready when you return to camp. If you like, you can even sleep on the balcony of your room tonight. The Namibian night sky above you cannot be enjoyed better than this.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Accommodation: Elegant Desert Camp
Optional Activity: San/ bushman walk, Sundowner Game Drive
Distance: ± 300 km
Driving time: ± 3½ hours

Day 3: Namib Desert, Namibia

The gates of Namib-Naukluft Park are open before the sun rises today. As soon as you enter the park, you are able to enjoy the beautiful morning light in the oldest desert in the world, no matter where you are in the park. A breakfast picnic would also be a great way to start your day before exploring the park further. A 4×4 vehicle takes you through an off-road track to reach Deadvlei/Sossusvlei. Deadvlei’s clay pan is surrounded by the world’s highest dunes and surrounded by long dead camelthorn trees. In the Sesriem canyon, you can walk along the now dry riverbed at the bottom of the gorge. The afternoon is spent relaxing at your camp, after enjoying many new sights and experiences. In the evening, you will be treated to a delicious three-course dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Accommodation: Elegant Desert Camp
Included Highlights: Namib-Naukluft Park, Deadvlei/ Sossusvlei, Sesriem Canyon

Day 4: Namib Desert – Swakopmund, Namibia

The Gaub and Kuiseb canyons await your arrival after a hearty breakfast. You will be shown the best lookout spots with your guide, whose scenery is often spectacular. An unexpected sight awaits you on the horizon as you travel through arid landscapes. As you drive towards the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, you can see the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. Prior to arriving in Swakopmund, a visit to the Walvis Bay lagoon is planned, where you will be able to observe flamingos. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring this unique little seaside town nestled between the desert and the sea. It is encouraged that you try one of the many good restaurants on offer (optional) in the evening. You will be staying at the Organic Stay Guesthouse over night.

Day 5: Swakopmund – Windhoek, Namibia

You return inland after breakfast. A visit to the Spitzkoppe Mountains is included along the way. You can explore some of the most preserved, prehistoric artworks in the area with the assistance of a local guide in the mountains. Many of these paintings were created thousands of years ago by San/Bushmen. Your guide will explain their meanings. The woodcarvers’ market in Okahandja is another place where you can buy handcrafted souvenirs.  Your 4×4 desert tour in Namibia comes to an end as you return to Windhoek. With a new love for Namibia’s deserts, you are driven either to your next lodge or the Windhoek airport.

Meals: Breakfast
Included Highlights: Spitzkoppe, Okahandja Market
