Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park – Lake Naivasha, Kenya
This morning, gain valuable insights into wildlife conservation efforts with a talk by a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) representative. Learn about the challenges and triumphs of protecting Kenya’s precious animals. Later, embark on a scenic journey south through the Great Rift Valley, leading you to the captivating Lake Naivasha. This vast freshwater lake, fringed by lush grasslands and olive trees, is a haven for diverse wildlife.
Hop on a boat cruise for prime hippo and buffalo sightings. Don’t forget your binoculars! Scan the skies for vibrant lovebirds, graceful ibis, and the majestic African fish eagle. Disembark at Crescent Island, a tranquil wildlife sanctuary nestled in the heart of the lake. Embark on a guided walk, searching for wildebeest, zebra, and giraffe roaming freely in this protected paradise.
Lake Naivasha’s name, derived from the Maasai word “Nai’posha” meaning “rough water,” might be slightly misleading. While the lake can experience occasional choppiness, it’s generally calm, offering a perfect environment for spotting an abundance of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for wallowing buffaloes in the swamps, and listen for the calls of colobus monkeys echoing through the treetops.

We depart for the Masai Mara National Reserve after breakfast. This is a must-see on any Kenya trip. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our safari camp, our base for the trip. Visit the craft center and meet some of the women who create the wares sold there, then sit down for a delicious farm-to-table lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions
When will I see the wildebeest migration?
The wildebeest typically disperse into the Seronera plains of Tanzania during the short rains, which fall in late November or early December. Here they remain until the end of the long rains from January to early May. Towards the end of April the wildebeest start to congregate on the southern plains in the preparation for the 800km northward migration to Kenya. The major obstacle faced by the wildebeest on this migration is the crossing for the Grumeti River through the western corridor, which typically occurs between June and July. From July to October, you may catch the crossing of the Mara River into Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. What are the travel days like?
This is not a physically challenging tour, however the travelling can be difficult on long drives with poor road conditions. Long distances are covered between national parks and game drives are also spend driving around the park in search of wildlife. Yet the diversity and beautiful scenery of this African landscape combined with meeting the local tribes and learning about their cultures truly enhances the experience. What if I'm travelling solo?
Our group trips are designed for shared accommodation so the single supplement is optional based on whether you require a private room. We pair single travels in twin accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of your tour.FROM
