Review by Nele Verbehe who traveled Best of Uganda (sourced from operator) :

I enjoyed the tour very, very, very much! The nature and wildlife is amazing. I don’t think I ever saw so many different shades of green! Jo was and excellent guide and showed us a phenomenal country. It was my first trip to Africa but certainly not my last. The beautiful nature, the touching meetings with the local people and off course the sun and “polé polé” attitude, it all touched me.

Day 1: Entebbe – Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda

We depart from our hotel near Entebbe at 08h00 and travel west through the outskirts of the capital, Kampala. We will stop to visit a drum market and the equator en-route. We will reach Lake Mburo National Park in the afternoon where there are large herds of game and hippos. Our camp will be on the shores of the lake.

Meals: Dinner, lunch at own expense
Distance: 230 km
Highlights: Equator, Drum market, Lake Mburo National Park
Departure Point: Lake Heights Hotel

Day 2: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda

We begin our day with a game drive/walk, after which we will leave the Park to journey through a landscape of undulating hills peppered with banana plantations and herds of magnificent long-horned Ankole cattle. In the afternoon we journey on rough mountain terrain and pass isolated villages, frequently hidden by mist, toward the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This evening’s camp is situated at the forest’s edge.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance: 250 Km
Highlights: Game Drive on the way out of the Mburo Park, Scenic Drive to Bwindi

Days 3 – 4: Bwindi Gorilla Trek, Uganda

On one of these days we will participate in what is the by far the most memorable ‘wow factor’ of this tour – Gorilla Trekking. We divide into small groups and hike up into the lush forest, led by local guides, to track and spend some time with a whole family of scarce wild Mountain Gorillas. Because the Gorilla permits are limited, we will spend two days here in order to give everyone a chance to take part. If permits are on offer on Day 4, we will pay a visit to Lake Bunyonyi on Day 3. When not hiking to see the gorillas, we embark on leisurely village walks and spend some time seeking out the incredible birds that have made the forest fringe their home.

Meals: Breakfast X2, Lunch X2, Dinner X2
Distance: 59 Km
Highlights: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Gorilla Tracking(optional), Bwindi Jungle

Days 5 – 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Ishasha, Uganda

Departing from the mountains and lush forestry, we head down to the grasslands of the magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park. We spend two evenings camping here in an isolated campsite. Besides the plentiful species of mammals, reptiles and birds, Ishasha is famous for its massive tree-climbing lions. We will embark on lengthy game drives in order to seek out the high fig trees where we might spot these lions, as well as the vast savannah for other animals.

Meals: Breakfast X2, Lunch X2, Dinner X2
Distance: 150 km
Highlights: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Camp on the Ishasha river, 2 Nights within the Park,Tree Climbing Lions, Massive Hippo Population

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda

We pack up our gear in the morning and journey across the Park and through the Maramagambo Forest, where we make our way to Rwenzori or the ‘Mountains of the Moon’. Our camp will be set up in the local community centre where we can mingle with the locals and go for a walk around the villages, then into the forest. The slopes rise up to 5000 metres above sea level and are often capped in snow making for an unusual sight considering it is so close to the equator.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance: 120 Km
Highlights: Drive through Maramogambo Forest, Outskirts of Lake Edward, Ruwenzori Mountains, Village Walk

Day 8: Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda

After an early morning start we leave the mountains behind us and descend into the panoramic tea plantations that surround Fort Portal. Prepare for a rough journey today in our vehicle as we take a long drive to Kaniyo-Pabidi camp in Murchison Falls National Park. We can enjoy a few comfortable amenities here at the Old Jane Goodall Institute where you will stay in wood cabins. This evening is spent in accommodation and we enjoy a delicious meal after our long day.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance: 300 Km
Highlights: Murchison Falls National Park, scenic drive

Days 9 – 10: Murchison Falls/Victoria Nile, Uganda

Look forward to a fun day today as we get to meet a troupe of chimpanzees who are habituated and amusing to meet and watch. We will spend about an hour with the group before heading back to camp. Our next activity today is to explore Murchison Falls where the Nile River narrows and falls into the Rift Valley. You can look forward to wide open spaces, rolling hills and beautiful scenery where you can maybe spot the Rothschild Giraffe. We will be camping for two nights here.

Distance: 55 km per day
Highlights: Chimpanzee Trek with included permit, Murchison Falls, Northern Part of Murchison Falls National Park, Wild Camping in big game area

Day 11: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Uganda

An early morning start allows us to take a leisurely cruise along the Nile River. We will hopefully be able to spot the rare Shoebill stork, amongst other animals. (If we are unable to travel by boat we will use the safari vehicle.) Once back at our vehicle we will leave the park and go to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This was established to reintroduce Rhino back into their original habitat. We will be camping tonight.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance: 204 km
Highlights: Victoria Nile boat cruise, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Scenic Drive

Day 12: Jinja, Uganda

Today you have the option of tracking Rhino on foot as an optional activity. We will pack up camp for the last time and make our way to Jinja for a relatively comfortable stay at Adrift Camp. An own expense dinner can be enjoyed with your fellow travellers.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Distance: 226 Km
Highlight: Drive through many villages, Jinja (adventure Capital of Uganda)

Day 13: Jinja, Uganda – Entebbe, Uganda

The tour ends in the morning after we enjoy our last breakfast together. However, the Nile River offers some of the most thrilling one-day white water rafting adventures in the world. From the campsite, you will also be able to spend a day helping out at a local community project. We encourage you to partake part in these activities even though they will be at your own expense. However, you are more than welcome to unwind at the ‘Source of the Nile’ and book an additional evening at the camp.

The truck transfer departs Jinja at 09h00 to head back to Entebbe arriving around 180h0 at the Lake Height Hotel, Entebbe.
