Livingstone

This is a limited participation camping tour with hot shower facilities (6 nights) by means of a bucket shower with hot water off the fire, in true African style. We do also experience wild camping with basic facilities (7 nights) and the perfect way to enjoy Botswana. The tour provides all equipment such as sleeping mats (5cm thick) and chairs with backrests. Tents are large, spacious (2.2 x 2.2 x 1.8 metre with built-in insect nets) and easy to erect. It is a limited participation tour which involves putting up your tent (very easy) and packing luggage into the truck. The tour leaders prepare all meals but we ask for help in washing up (on rotation). The tour involves some long travel days on bumpy roads which means early mornings , ideal for an adventurous traveller. On your safari you will stay in designated camping sites within national parks, private reserves, private campsites and towns. Facilities are good with hot showers, electricity (for charging cameras), clothes washing facilities, bars and restaurants. A few of our camps are basic and have limited facilities with simple reed enclosures for showers but do have flush toilets. Days 3-5: Okavango Delta, Botswana

We will be led deep into the heart of the Okavango Delta by our local guides who navigate us through the region on mokoros (traditional dug-out canoes). The Delta is created as water from the highlands of Angola that gush out over the flat Kahalari Desert sands, forming a lush green paradise for bird and wildlife. We camp on isolated islands situated in this incredibly diverse region and experience pleasant bush walks, bird watching and swimming in the surprisingly crystal clear waters. We camp with our local guides in order to be taught more about their traditional lifestyle and culture. In the early evening of Day 5 we make our way back to Maun and are granted time to partake in an optional game flight over the Delta which provides you with an entirely new perspective of this natural wonder.

Days 6-9: Moremi & Savuti, Botswana

We spend four evenings in these conservation regions, giving us ample time to explore the array of different habitats found here. We devote our time on game drives to observe the abundant wildlife, including the wild dog, elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion and other animals. Moremi Game Reserve is rated one of the premier wildlife regions of the world, and we climb aboard our 4X4 in order to experience even more splendid game viewing.

Grasslands, floodplains, forests, lily lagoons and snaking water channels mix to create a wide range of wonderful game viewing habitats. Travelling north over the sand ridge and into the Mababe depression, we make our way to the Savuti Marsh. This open grassland region draws in herds of zebra and wildebeest, which subsequently attract big prides of lion (for which Savuti is renowned). We spend our night camping in the wilderness in the heart of Chobe National Park at either Savuti or Zwei-Zwei.

The early evening game viewing sundowner cruise is a popular activity as we have the chance to watch the majestic herds of elephant head back to the Chobe River in search of water.
