One of the most thrilling adventures you can go on is one of our Kruger National Park Tours, where the Big Five can be found (elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo). The reserve, located in the centre of the Lowveld, is drenched in history and boasts spectacular landscapes and incredible wildlife. Game drives through this area are exquisite, while exhilarating walking safaris give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with the majestic, large mammals of Africa.

Larger than Israel, the Kruger National Park is one of the biggest game reserves on the continent, spreading over an area of 19,633 square kilometres. Regions of the Park were initially guarded by the government of the South African Republic in 1898, and it became the country’s first national park in 1926. The atmosphere of the reserve is incredibly unique, permitting visitors to bask in the vast wilderness and unpredictability that is Africa. The Kruger National Park is situated across the provinces of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, just south of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. It presently makes up part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park – a peace reserve that joins the Kruger National Park with game parks in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, allowing animals to wander freely throughout. The landscapes are dotted with diverse vegetation, including baobabs, fever trees, knob thorns, marula and mopane trees.

When you travel on one of our Kruger National Park Tours you will discover why it is known as the world’s ultimate safari destination, with quiet picnic sites, rest camps, lodges, waterholes and hides peppered all over the region. There is plenty to see and do in the reserve aside from the excellent game viewing. The Echo Caves are vast caverns that seem to extend forever, with huge cave roofs that once protected nomadic tribes. The stunning limestone formations are an unforgettable site. These caverns are amongst the most ancient in the world and were originally inhabited by the San bushmen who adorned the walls with artistic engravings.

When visiting the Kruger National Park be sure to try out open air dining in a boma (stunning outdoor space with a central campfire and encircled by bunches of upright branches), during which you will have the chance to experience something new and different. If you are feeling more adventurous, try out the Olifants River Backpack Trail, which runs for 42 kilometres, over a period of three days. These walking safaris will provide you with not only beautiful plant life and scenery, but also incredible close up encounters with the surrounding wilderness.

The Thulamela Ruins are located near the Luvuhu River, within the Kruger National Park. This old, African kingdom provides you with an insight into early African Culture and lifestyles. It is one of the most significant archaeological sites in all of South Africa. A new discovery here was the burial area of an African King and his Queen, who were concealed with plenty of intriguing gold relics. The kingdom is made up of a stone walled citadel and is surrounded by various other smaller homes and structures. The Fortress itself is capable of housing approximately one thousand people, whilst the entire kingdom could accommodate around three thousand. Majority of the community became goldsmiths and traders who spent their lives trading ivory, gold and iron that they excavated from the close by mines. With an abundance of breathtaking scenery, a massively diverse range of wildlife and plenty of fascinating activities on offer, the Kruger National Park makes for one of the most spectacular African holidays yet.
