Maun – Okavango Delta – Maun, Botswana

This morning we make our way to the Okavango Delta, a natural wetland network that spreads over approximately 1.6 million hectares of northern Botswana. The Delta is formed by the south flow of rivers from Angola that divide repetitively across the flat plains of Botswana, creating a complex system of river channels, lagoons and isolated islands. The Okavango is an inland Delta and the only one of its kind in the whole of Africa. We devote today to exploring the wilderness with expert ‘polers’ who navigate us through the maze of water channels of the Delta in a Mokoro (traditional dug-out canoe). If luck is on our side, we might be able to spot some wonderful wildlife, including hippo, crocodile, buffalo and elephant, but this experience is more focused on the incredible watercourses and stunning beauty of this unique place. We should return to Maun between 2pm and 3pm in the afternoon and the rest of the afternoon is free to relax by the pool or partake in an optional afternoon scenic flight over the Okavango Delta.
