Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

We leave briefly after the sun rises and embark on a game drive into the incredible Masai Mara Reserve, famous as one of East Africa’s top National Reserves and home to a broad selection of wildlife species. It is perhaps most well-known for hosting the magnificent Annual Migration, consisting of massive herds of over one million, including wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson’s gazelle, that all cross over from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The Masai Mara is most visited between the months of July and October, when these impressive herds feast on the luscious, fresh grazing available in the reserve. Africa’s predators can usually be spotted close behind these herbivores during the Migration, and are frequently seen over a kill during this time of year. We game drive some more through a portion of the park, searching for the Big 5, as well as many other species of wildlife who make this reserve their home.

Following our day of game spotting, we are given the opportunity to pay a visit to one of the close by Masai Manyattas – family compounds in which the Masai live out their traditional lives. In the night we gather together around an open, crackling campfire and spend some time marvelling at the magnificent sunset provided to us by the glorious skies of Africa before catching some up on some well-deserved rest.
