Arusha – Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti National Park – Arusha, Tanzania
PLEASE NOTE: This activity includes 2 days/ 1 night in the National Park. The 1st night is spent outside the park in Karatu.
We start the day by visiting the Meserani Snake Park and Masai Cultural Museum. Make time to explore the lovely town of Arusha. Just a few minutes walk away from the campsite you will find a gallery selling paintings with a charming African feel to it. After a delicious lunch you are met by a local Tanzanian operator who leads the trips into the Parks in four wheel drive vehicles that have been modified for safari use. These vehicles allow for fantastic photo opportunities.
Departing from the campsite we make our way through the Masai town of Mtu Wa Mbu (‘Mosquito River’, situated next to the Lake Manyara National Park), and up the Rift Valley Escarpment to the village of Karatu. Karatu boasts incredible views of the surrounding hills and has numerous wheat farms that only add more beauty to this magnificent scenery. Our evening is spent at a lovely campsite in Karatu.
On the morning of the 2nd day, we leave in the early hours to enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and make our way into the Ngorongoro Crater that is abundant with wildlife, offering some of the best game viewing in the African continent, including the elusive Black Rhino.
Following our Crater game drive, we travel down the Crater’s rim and pass the Cradle of Mankind before reaching the Serengeti National Park. Game driving through the southern and central regions of the Park, we cross seemingly infinite landscapes that offer only natural beauty. We bush camp (no ablution facilities) tonight amongst the cool breezes and tranquil sounds of the African wilderness.
As soon as dawn breaks on the third day, we embark on yet another game drive, this time to explore the plains, searching for more majestic wildlife. If we’re fortunate enough, we might be able to see several (possibly even all) of Africa’s Big 5, including lion, rhino, buffalo, elephant and leopard. Following this, we return to the bountiful Crater rim and board our truck to return to Arusha where our night is spent swapping stories and laughter over our exhilarating experience with the wilderness.
