This Cape Town to Victoria Falls adventure leads you through Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. You will also travel through the Fish River Canyon well-known for its prolific birdlife. The beautiful Etosha Pan National Park is one of Southern Africa's most loved wildlife sanctuaries packed with a variety of animals and amazing scenery for your viewing pleasure. You will also visit the large inland Okavango Delta, one of the Seven natural Wonders of Africa, which is well worth the visit. The accommodation on tour is a mixture of guest houses, chalets, lodges or permanent tented camps. The accommodation we use is graded 2 to 3 star and is comfortable, clean and on a twin share bases (en-suites with occasional shared bathrooms). All linen and bedding is provided. Most meals are provided by the guides around the fire or on the roadside during travel days (the truck has a fully kitted kitchen). Should you be a single traveller you will be roomed up with another same gender traveller unless you prefer a single supplement (limited to 2 travellers). Limited Participation: An essential part of your safari is participation. Your tour leaders will do all the meal preparation but we do ask travellers to help (on rotation) with the washing up. There are some long travel days which require early morning starts, to gain the most of our day in Africa.

Day 1: Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with the iconic Table Mountain at its heart. Following a briefing of the tour at 08h00, we pay a visit to the African Penguin colony on our way to Cape Point Nature Reserve and then devote the remainder of our day to unwinding on the sun-kissed beach of Hout Bay. We also test out some of Cape Town’s finest restaurants at the famous V&A Waterfront (own expense).

Overnight: Sweetest Guesthouses – is a collection of individually decorated houses in a metropolitan area of Cape Town near the V&A Waterfront. The  group may be spread amongst any of the houses, within walking distance of each other, and the group breakfasts will be taken in the same house. Rooms are twin with en-suite facilities (or similar guest house).

Day 2: Cederberg, South Africa

The Cederberg is an enormous jagged landscape where massive sandstone boulders have been shaped by wind and rain into strange, yet weirdly artistic formations. We make our way north to the Cederberg and explore the rough terrain on foot before unwinding in our gorgeous chalets for the evening.

Day 3: Gariep River, Namibia

Today we head into the more barren regions and make our way into Namibia, where we reside at a lodge situated on the Gariep River. The southern border river of Namibia flows gently and tranquilly over the river valley and is barely affected by tourism. The riverbed is sandy and the water is crystal clear. We are given some free time to indulge in a refreshing swim and some unwinding time, or you can choose to explore the river in canoes (own expense).

Day 4: Fish River Canyon, Namibia

Located along the lower areas of the Fish River is the famous Fish River Canyon, one of the most incredible natural wonders in the southern region of Namibia. Up to 550 metres deep, the Fish River Canyon is the second biggest canyon in the world. We head up to the canyon and, at midday, marvel at a magnificent sunset as the sun slowly disappears behind the rim of the Canyon.

Day 5-6: Namib Desert, Namibia

The arid Namib Desert contains never-ending orange dunes that have been sculpted into piercing ridges by the sand-shifting wind. At Sossusvlei, these dunes create a gateway into the Namib Desert. We embark on a trek to Sossusvlei, explore the wonders of Sesriem Canyon and admire the beautiful sunset that slips away behind the world’s tallest sand dunes. If you do not choose to do the 4km walk to Sossusvlei, you can make use of the 4WD transfer at your own expense.

Day 7-8: Swakopmund, Namibia

Swakopmund is a well-loved seaside resort with a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere, characterised by countless colonial structures. In regards to the vegetation in the area, both the Welwitschia Mirabilis and the Kokerboom grow on the rocky terrain of the Namib and plenty of stunning specimens populate the coastal town. Swakopmund is also famous for being the adventure capital of Namibia. You will have a day at your leisure to spend exploring the town or trying your hand at the thrilling arts of dune boarding or sea kayaking.

Day 10-11: Etosha National Park, Nambia

Formally an enormous lake fed by the Kunene River, the Etosha Pan National Park withered up thousands of years back when the river waters chose a new route. Etosha is a massive game region, thus we embark on many game drives around the giant pan in search of elephants, herds of antelope and lions wandering near the waterholes. We reside in a lodge situated on the outskirts of the National Park.

Day 12: Windhoek, Namibia

This beautiful town, situated in a valley, mixes modern city architecture with countless structures of German colonial styles. The allure of Windhoek is in its fantastic combination of African and European cultures and the hospitality of its people. We pay a visit to the diverse capital and indulge in a delicious meal at a local restaurant (own expense).

Day 13: Kalahari, Botswana

We cross into Botswana and spend the evening in rustic, grass huts in the centre of the Kalahari. We embark on a hike with the local Bushmen who teach us some handy bush skills.

Day 14-16: Okavango Delta, Botswana

The Okavango Delta is a massive inland delta and the only one of its kind in the world. Rather than flowing into the ocean, the yearly flood of new water extends over 15,000 square metres of the Kalahari sand, creating a labyrinth of lagoons and channels. We travel deep into the Delta via mekoro (traditional dug-out canoes). We spend two evenings at our tented camp and embark on pleasant game treks, indulge in a few refreshing swims and marvel at the beautiful game and birdlife in this unspoilt wilderness region.

Overnight: 1 night Maun, Island Safari Lodge – standard twin rooms with en suite facilities. Swimming pool, bar, restaurant, telephone.
2 nights Okavango Delta –wilderness tented camping – Each tent has twin camp beds with linen and an en suite chemical toilet. Shared bucket shower tent with hot water off the fire. Tents have built-in insect nets. We need to take our own water and all equipment. Wild tented camping can be very enjoyable but please remember that we leave no trace of our stay and take all rubbish away with us. The wilderness tented camp supplies all linen blankets and pillows. Each tent is appointed with twin camp beds, comfortable mattresses, bedside table and light. The camp chairs have a backrest.

The glimmering salt pans of Makgadikgadi are the approximate size of Switzerland, with majority of them appearing as a stark, white, never-ending plain. When the rain falls, a sharp change occurs as the pans suddenly come to life with water birds, big herds of zebra, wildebeest and springbok.

Day 19-21: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

The majestic Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. David Livingstone first found the Falls in 1885 and named them after his Queen. The setting he came across was a 1.6 kilometre wide sheer basalt fault line over which the magnificent Zambezi gushed to a depth of 100 metres, forming a massive cloud of spray. The Falls are famous for the large variety of activities on offer, including the thrilling sport of white water rafting on the powerful Zambezi, scenic flights or an adrenaline-filled bungee jump from 111 metres at the top of the Falls. Our tour comes to an end at 08h00 on Day 21 at the hotel.
