The Garden Route winds its way down the coast from the N2 between the Eastern and Western Cape. It is a gorgeous stretch of road which is perfect for a road tripping tour. There are many sights and pitstops along the way where you can chill, refresh yourself and chat to the staff or the locals about the area.
There are many parks where you can absorb the natural beauty, learn about the history, fauna and flora. These parks are The Garden Route National Park, The Tsitsikamma National Park and The Wilderness National Park.
Another lovely place to visit is The Knysna Heads which are two large cliffs that face each other and jut out into the Knysna Lagoon, providing a gateway into it, almost protecting the lagoon from the rough seas. On the eastern side of the lagoon one can enjoy spectacular views, Leisure Isle and Knysna itself. Another relaxing way of enjoying the Knysna Heads is to visit the Cruise Café where you can have a wonderful meal and some refreshing beverages while taking in the tranquility and soothing colours of the ocean view.
On the western side is a privately owned Natural Heritage Site – Featherbed Nature Reserve that you can visit by ferry. Here are a few activities you can partake in:
– Cruising on the lagoon (includes champagne and oysters)
– Restaurants and bar facilities
– Nature Trails
– Hiking/walks/picnicking
– Birdwatching (sightings of the Knysna Loerie)
